I started using Currencies Direct some time ago and today wanted to transfer 800 sterling to my account in Spain.
I was quite taken aback when the best rate they could give was 1.10 when the current exchange rate is 1.17.
They said they could only give the commercial rate to amounts over £5000.

I'm sure when I used a previous broker that I got a much better rate (in the above example, maybe 1.16).

I presume everyone else who uses CD have experienced this - I think I may look around for an alternate broker to get a better rate for my hard-earned money. Any suggestions ?

Re cancellation of car hire - if via HireCarsinSpain then their T&C says:

Cancelling your Car
 

 
32.    If you decide you do not wish to hire the car we have arranged, you may cancel this at any time before the start of the hire period by e-mailing us at: help@hirecarsinspain.com 

33.    Where you cancel in accordance with Term 32, no charge will be made for cancelling your car.

34.    Please note that we cannot guarantee that the Spanish Company will not charge you the full hire charge where you fail to notify us, do not arrive to collect your car, collect your car late, do not retain your car for the full rental period or where you cancel the car following the start of your rental period. This will depend upon whether the Spanish Company is able to re-hire the car reserved for you.
 

Thread: Flight cancellations today

I wonder if anyone else has had the following problem :

We have a return flight booking originally flying out yesterday and return on next Wednesday.
The flight out was cancelled late Thursday but we were able to get a free transfer onto the Sunday flight.
However that flight too has just been cancelled.

We decided to try changing our booking for 2 weeks in the future and the general information on the web site says that when you change a cancelled flight the return portion of that booking can also be changed, however ... when we tried to do this it doesn't allow us to change our return flight - and in fact the page says that the return flight is not cancelled so we can't change it.
This is plainly daft - the booking would have then been flying back 2 weeks before flying out !!
Has anyone had similar experience and managed to get round it ?

We tried phoning Easyjet but got a message saying they weren't open until tomorrow at 8am !  If ever there was a time when they should be open then now is the time.

Try some of the recommendations on the following site (I designed this for my friends Harold and Kate who live in Granada):

We stayed in Casa de Rafa in the Albaicin - a lovely place in a quiet street with views across to the Alhambra - and not that expensive either - thoroughly recommended.

As for a hotel with parking then that could be a problem - driving in Granada is an absolute nightmare and parking even worse - people pay 10,000 euros just to get a garage space !  When we go to Granada by car we always park in the underground car-park along Gran Via - but it's not cheap.
As you're only there for 2 days then probably best to park in the above car-park and then it's just a few mins walk up Gran Via to the city centre.

Hope you enjoy your stay - Granada is one of our favourite places to visit.

Yes - I've just downloaded it !  Thanks  More...
I'm now trying to work out how to specify only a portion of a year - we completed at the end of April last year so I would have thought we would pay about 2/3rds of the normal amount - but it seems you can only specify a whole year - am I being too hopeful ?
