 And just to confirm what I said below (about the west), I have just been told that the butt of Spanish jokes is the people of Lepe in Huelva.    'Chistes de Leperos" is the equiv of our Irish jokes in England.   Interesting!!!

 Someone once told me that people always make jokes about the people to the west of them - so the Spanish laugh about the Portugese - the English laugh about the Irish, the Russians laugh about the Poles (is Poland West of Russia - can't quite visualise) - I thought that was pretty funny.  Everyone in America laughs at the West Coast thinking it is lah lah land so maybe something in it???

 That is a really unpleasant response midasgold and totally uncalled for.   There are many many places on the costas which have enclaves of Brit expats.  For sure some have more than others - but you will find there are good places to live in these places, just as anywhere else.   Places like Torrevieja have become what they are because of the demand from  northern Europeans.  You are absolutely right to choose where you want to live, but to shout others down when they defend an area is (dare I say it?) typical unpleasant Brit behaviour.
