Eye on Spain Newsletter 03 July 2007

Buenos dias

We got back from France last week after spending a few great days in Disneyland Paris although we'd never have thought we were away. The majority of the other visitors to the park were Spanish!  It was quite cold and wet in Paris but we then returned to some rather (uncomfortable) scorching heat here.  What a difference.

Today is a sad day for us. We say goodbye to our popular contributor, Pete. Many of you have been following his accounts of his life in Aljucen in Extremadura but unfortunately due to health reasons Pete is heading back to UK. I am sure many of you will join us in wishing him well for the future.

Now, next week is not so sad....on July 12th Eye on Spain will be 3 years old! We've got a few things lined up for the Birthday so don't miss it, and if you want to send us presents then please do!

Enough waffle, lots of great articles for you today:

Please note that if you cannot click the links then please copy and past them into your browser instead.

Pete's Last Instalment
Don't miss Pete's final instalment of his humourous account of his life in Aljucen in the "wilds of Extremadura". Thanks Pete, we wish you all the best.

Save Money Transferring Money
It still suprises me how many people use their bank to tranfer thousands of Euros to their Spanish bank account (yes, I made that mistake too). Using a currency broker will usually save you money.

Spain Vs Italy - Let The Gastronomic Battle Commence
Gastronome extraordinaire (well, at least to us he is), Selwyn Figueras, this week kicks off a series of articles all about eating out in Spain, it's a subject very close to his heart. As Selwyn recently flirted between Spain and Italy how did the food compare?

How Quickly Do Kids Learn Spanish?
Jim Porter this week takes a look at how pre-schoolers living in Spain learn Spanish. Jim talks to someone whose kids have been in this very situation.

When Cultural Characters Conflict
Is it Father Christmas or the Three Kings? Does the tooth fairy visit or is it a mouse? Our regular characters back home don't mean much here.
