Win a Spanish Villa - Too Good to be True?

The opportunity of winning a luxury Spanish villa for a handful of euros in an appealing one. And lots of these so-called opportunities are currently doing the rounds in the form of raffles! You see a mention for a raffle – not here you won’t! – and then go to the website and enter your email address. The raffle organiser (for that read property developer or agent) will then contact you about buying a ticket. Mind you, the raffle will only go ahead if a sufficient number of tickets are sold. Sounds fair enough? No, not really. From where I am sitting, it is little more than a marketing exercise to capture email addresses which then go round and round and round and you will receive endless email ads for Spanish villas until you are sick of the sight of them!

Those of you who look for affordability when buying a property will be interested to know the latest property figures from the Spanish Valuation Society. The most affordable cities for property are Pontevedra. Lugo and Badajoz. The average price per square metre is 1,400 euros which compares to close to 4000 euros in cities such as Barcelona and Madrid. I can see the attractions of bottom fishing in this way although there is more to hotspotting than just buying low, of course. If you email me at Iain@internationalpropertyalerts.co.uk with hotspotting in the subject line I will send you a hotspotting checklist!

New government data suggests that foreigners now comprise almost 9 per cent of Spain's population. This is up from little more than 2 per cent in 2000. There is little doubt that immigrants are driving much of the property market. A report from Angel Berges at Madrid’s Analistas Financieros Internacionales suggests that immigrants will buy 170,000 homes in Spain this year which represents almost 25 per cent of the demand for new properties. At my free website, www.ukpropertyalerts.co.uk, I have long been advising BTL Brits to invest in immigrant hotspots in the UK and members are enjoying some success with that strategy. The same advice is equally applicable in Spain. An amnesty last year led to 700,000 illegal migrants getting residence papers. Only 16 per cent of these immigrants own property which suggests there is massive potential for you in this sector.
