Registering a new baby in Malaga-warning!
The Comments |
A warning to all those who need to register a baby born in Spain. We were told at the hospital(Costa Del SOl,Marbella) that we had 6 weeks to register my Son. Because my Mother-in-Law came over we waited until he was 4 1/2 weeks old. Only to be told in Estepona that it should have been done in 30 days! They sent us to Marbella Registro Civil who said there was nothing they could do as we live in Estepona. We went back to Estepona, who sent us back to Marbella as this is where my son was born. Marbella said, since we live in Estepona there was nothing they could do so I lost my temper and EVENTUALLY the lady in Marbella gave us a piece of paper which was stamped. We went back to estepona, who FINALLY sent it off in June and said they would call me. In October I called them and they said it was still pending,in November I went there again and they said it was still pending. In the mean time I had to get an e1-11 from the UK to get my son his vacinations, which was still a hassle everytime. Finally,i have called the British Consolate as I need to get back to the UK as we have no money but I cannot get my son a passport as he STILL doesn't have a Birth Certificate.(he is now 9 months old!) And I am told I need to get translated copies of me and my husbands birth certificates and have them authorised(which costs ALOT of money) before the birth certificate will be issued. Alternatively, I can get an emergency passport for him (One way, which still costs €79) but I will have to keep flying back to sort this out! I am not complaining about this as it was us who were late. I am just warning others to CHECK the rules of your local authority BEFORE making the same mistake we did!

I have just read your last post, as I have read also most of your others re returning to the uk. What a time you are having you must be so stressed out and worried, I wish you all the best and hope things work out for you and you can eventually get back to Spain if that is what you really want to do, you never know things may turn out better for you in the UK.
All the best Kathy

Thank you for the kind words of support. Yes, we are a little stressed! Actually looking forward to getting it all sorted and getting back there now! I'm sure this will be a story we'll tell our kids in a few years and laugh about!
Thanks again
