On a recent programme on tv the mayor of Murcia stated that anyone who lives in the Murcia region will receive free healthcare to all reguardless of age. This she said would happen within one year. Does anybody know when this wil start and what you need to be able to qualify for this ie residency permit etc. My wife and i will be moving to Calasparra in the Murcia region sometime this year. Many thanks for your replys and comments

Read Febe's first post on this thread: http://www.eyeonspain.com/Secure/ForumPosts.aspx?thread=347&dev=fb17&name=Healthcare in Spain
This was about free healthcare in Catalunya, but I imagine the intention is to provide a similar service in Murcia. As for when and if it's really going to happen - you can never be sure of anything here in Spain until after it's happened - and even then not always! Perhaps one the members in the Murcia region will be able to offer some more insight.

The promise was made just before the local elections. If the mayor was voted back in, one of her promises was to bring free health care for foreigners in line with that in Catalonia and Valencia. She did say it would be "within the year" and that was back, I think, in January.
Also read other threads regarding new rules regarding residencia.
