We recently flew from Leeds/Bradford to Alicante and had an iron confiscated from our hand luggage going through security.
The lady said you can take travel irons but not full size irons. It was just a normal brand new iron, luckily not too expensive but it wasn't worth checking the bag in as hold luggage as she suggested.
We thought it would be safer in hand luggage than thrown about in the suitcase.
We can't understand the difference between a travel and a full size one, slightly heavier maybe but no where near our baggage allowance.
So be aware if you are thinking of taking an iron with you.
