Thanks for every ones input to my original post.  We've now been out to La Marina a couple of times as well as visiting the area before and now excited that we're going over in January to complete on a property on the Urb.

Sten46 - yes you've guessed I'm from Derby (Alvaston). Met a couple from Burton who we swapped phone numbers with last time we were in La Marina who live there and with the Hillside serving Pedigree it will feel like home from home. Having said that I love the Spanish way of life and although we only be over there for holidays to start with, who knows what will happen in a year or two?

La Marina is a nice place to be honest and you can get a mixture which makes it perfect for people moving to Spain. You can still get your bingo, karaoke, fish & chips and not have to speak Spanish (for people moving over then this can be pretty helpful) and you can also visit the Spanish bars and restaurents and even better go down to San Fulgencio village or the village by the beach which is very Spanish and when you try to speak Spanish to them and not the same old grunty English then any mistakes they will help you out and guide you.

The crime...well I have not noticed anything bizarre that wouldn't happen anywhere else and have never been approached when walking along on my own in the day or night. Yes you get crime, but this happens everywhere and I have not seen anything major in La Marina.

As stated....the place is very hilly but that comes with great views and you get use to them after a while and know which road to dodge if you possibly can.

It's a friendly place with some great people and you can get the best of both worlds which is a great mixture.

Great to hear hear someone else loves it as well lpoolpam! We brought a property in January on the Urb about 5 minutes walk down from the police station and very happy with it. Going at the end of June for a fortnight and can't wait. Still enjoying exploring the place and looking forward to going in season for a change. I could quite easily live there!
