high speed train from malaga to madrid

You can find timetables and tariffs and book on line at renfe.es - good luck, it's an absolute minefield! I think you have to register before you can make a booking. You can buy tickets over the phone or at stations too, but it costs more. You could use a travel agent, but they will charge a fee (well earned I reckon, having tried to fathom out the website).
Last time I looked, it was about €100 return trip. (Coupled with the extortionate price for renewing a British passport at an overseas embassy, I decided it was cheaper to fly to England and do it here and see family at the same time. Shame, 'cos I really fancied taking the train and seeing a bit of Madrid).

Hi,
I went on the high speed train (the AVE) from Malaga to Madrid for the first time back in January. It cost me about 120 euros return but if I had booked it further ahead could have done it for 80 euros. Also, they often have special offers, and if you travel early morning you can get it cheap. They are supposed to be doing more promotions at the moment anyway (well maybe not in August!) to get more customers.
I definitely recommend it in terms of comfort. It is much better than a plane, has much more legroom space, they show films, there is a buffet bar, and it is much more relaxing than being squeezed into a budget airline seat. And it actually only took about 2 hours and 20 minutes so was great. Next time I go to Madrid will definitely use it again.
