Hi i wonder if anyone can help

We have a semi communal dish 4 x LNB everything was fine until one of the other users lost there signal the LNB was changed not by a proper installer but by the guy who houses the dish on his flat roof sinse then we get no normal channel 4 but get channel 4 +1 we get no music for the information on channels and our sky sports xetra and Eurosport 2 have disapeared. We have told him but because he is getting what he wants nothing is being investigated could it be that when he installed the new LNB he moved the dish slightly?

it is possible that he moved the dish out of alignment....c4 and bbc2 are very critical for alignment

he vcould also have changed the skew (angle) of the lnb, or the distance of the lnb to the dish face...both very important.

it could alos be the fct that he has changed it to a less powerful (but cheaper) make of lnb.

bit difficult to do anything as it is on his roof unless some for m of formal contract of installation use and maintenace was agreed amonst thise using the dish....

Thanks ever so much we thought that something must have been moved i dont think it was a cheaper LNB because he took the old one with him to ask for the same type.  But he cerntainly could have moved the lnb to cause this.  Problem is the company who set the system up has gone back to Ireland i have tried to give him other numbers to contact but he just ingnores this because it is not the same company. guess i will  keep trying to get him to do it. we have never been able to get BBC2 and only get ITV via the channel isles

Thanks again

Hi lacydog

As satanpcguy said 'bit difficult to do anything as it is on his roof unless some for m of formal contract of installation use and maintenace was agreed amonst thise using the dish....'

DID you have a contract ? Just shows that you should. When we were thinking of sharing a neighbour's sat dish they were adamant their daughter, a lawyer, wrote out a watertight contract. We chose to buy our own dish in the end.

I know TBH this guy does not have to do this, we had an arrangement with the previous owner and when he sold the house he made sure that the new owner would let us share.  We are in a 2 story townhouse with no space to put a dish and due to our location we could never have an alternative (thank goodness we didnt due to what happened) Thing is we pay for the sports channels and none of the others do so we are in the minority we were the first to go on the previous owners dish the others were invited by the new owner as they socialise with him we dont. im pretty sure if one of the others were paying and not getting it would be sorted but hey these things are sent to try us. ill just keep trying.

Thanks anyway

oops.

just reread your original message about which channels you are loosing.

they are the tricky to get north beam channels (ES2, SSe, SSN, along with about 30 or so others including the sky movies packages, some of the ukTV +1 services, hallmark,) and also the main EPG backgound music and full 7 day epg guide - (which is in 11778 a north beam frequency.)

this 11778 frequency is the main default transpnder that a sky box looks at each time it boots up or if you access the tv guide.

changing the DT from 11778 to another will help the sky box boot up, but it will not allow you access to other channel or the full 7 day EPG...

the LNB skew is very very very critical to the reception of these channels...

a minute rotation / adjustment of the LNB may well be required and you should get your channels back.

yes i try the 12129 on the default transponder and we get some music around 8pm for about 5 minutes so we try and do all the previews on to the planner then.  Would it need a gadget to alignit again or just him to fiddle as he did before?

again, chaning the default transponder (DT) will not help...it does not make channels appear...t just helps the box get the information it needs for booting up after being disconnected from the power...and if your lnb skew is correct you should not really have to change the DT anyway - the box should start up on its own - one good way is if you see the date and time on the box leave your DT alone..if you dont get a date and time then yes change your DT, and you will see a date and time appear.

you can do it your self...best to do it with your tv on one of the problem channels....sky sports news..and the ever so slightly rotate the lnb one direction, clear away from the dish, and check rececption...then turn again...

ideally it needs to be at a 1pm to 7pm angle.

and best to do this first in the am when the signal is strong, then again at around 3pm when the signal is getting weaker.

dont use a basic sat beeper as many of them falsely amplify the signal, and although you may get the channels with the beeper, when you disconnect it you may loose the channels again.

or get a sat installer with the correct measurement equipment should be able to do it in about 10 minutes.
