We would like to post this by way of a warning to your members thinking of renting their property. We have recently had a terrible experience with our very first tenant, who stayed at our brand new, luxury apartment for a few months. He did not pay the rent or the bills, and stole some of our property on leaving; including a DVD player, microwave oven and bedding. This fraudster (who lies easily) cannot be traced, as he gave a false employer address. We believe he may be a Time Share Rep on the Costa del Sol. His name, we were told by our Rental Agency, is BART DE HORNOIS. He is origonally from Belgium and has been living on the Costa del Sol for 10 years, now married to a Spanish lady (with young baby). Has anyone heard of him or know of his whereabouts? We would be grateful for any info on this man. We cannot now reclaim any of our costs, as our insurance does not cover this (he had the keys at the time of the theft and our Rental Agency did not make him sign the inventory or check it till after he left!).

Sorry to hear your very sad tale but your issue ought to be with the lettings agent also. Yes they should have made him sign the inventory and also checked him out of the apartment otherwise why have you paid them. More importantly I have rented three properties here long term and I have always paid two months damages deposit - not refunded until I have been checked out of the apartment and all bills paid up to date.
I also own two properties that are rented and the same situation exists there - the damages deposit is held until such time as the tenants check out and everything is satisfactory.

sorry to hear your bad luck the same thing happend to someone i know there apartment was striped
dont know if your intrested but as well as a cleaning service i can check an inventory list with your rental clients on arrival and departure as from what iv heard rental companys are falling short of there duty to owners
full service or just inventory available i will be living on phase 4 a.s.a.p

I have bought in Playa Golf III and am staying for quite some time. Wondered if you or anybody you know does private rental on Playas I, II or III as when we have family coming over would like to put them in a property close to us. Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Davelorr,
You should post you agent’s name, as they are just as guilty of fraud as Mr Hornois.
You should have had a contract from them and they should have looked after your interests.

Hello,
It seems this gentlemand had not received a good management team, these things do happen but referances are needed, they should have signed and inventory, but some Agents rent your property and then they say there businesss with you is over, we do not agree and we are a Agent ¨s and a Management Company, but some people here misunderstand, the two.
Some Agents policies are to rent and do not want to Manage incase this situation happens, so they think they have a clear conscience as they walk away , when there commission is paid to them, a lot of people think they do not need a Management Company, but they are the ones who check on the client and the property , if your tenant does not pay 7 days after the due payment date is due, you contact the Management Company and ask them to have a quiet word with this tenant , not by phone but face to face, as soon as possible, no one wants a Management Company on there door every month asking for money.
Some times embarrasment helps, depending on the tenant, there is always a way of getting the tenant to pay up, including cutting the supplys ie electric, for a short period, but there are criminals out here who do this as a business and these are the ones you usually are suspicious of , as we try to find out as much as possible with other Agencies and Banks, schools where there children are, regarding referances, you have had a bad situation, hope fully this has not put you off,.
Never solely use an Agent, make sure the Management Company provide a tenant before the Management as this is another thing here the Managements promise to find a tenant and sit back on the money you have paid for Management, some here charge a fortune and for what?
Remember, you want them and they need you.
They are the ones who work from month to month and they would not want to loose you as a client., so they are the ones you should have and see if they can get the tenant first and tell them they will have the Management then. Also have the Management in your area not a very large one miles away, a small community talks , Agents and alike.

we also know some more people who are searching for him

Whilst I feel sorry for your situation, I am not sure you should be publishing this person's details on this forum, or inciting anyone to punish him.
I too have been ripped off by Timeshare merchants, so I understand your anger.
The original post was in Octoer 2006, if this person is still out there conning people, you should give this information to the authorities, who should deal with him.
Justin, make a decision on this?
If you agree, remove the personal details.
