Hi my son owns an apartment at Navigolf in La Cala, i have just been told by my cleaner that we have new long term neighbours. 

They have a dog (rottweiller mix i think) and have also climbed over the low wall connecting our properties and connected a cable to our satellite dish so they can use it themselves.  The dog puts his paws on the low wall and growls at you when you are on the terrace, we are not allowed to put a fence up as it would spoil the look of the community. 

My question is what can i do, we are here in the UK if i ask the cleaner to pull the lead out from the dish they will just put it back in, and everytime people are took round to view the property for long term lets the dog is putting them off.

I think that according to the Spanish law, EVERY owner of a dog that could represent a danger if going "berserk" has to have a license, no license, no dog as there were repeated attacks from big dogs onto people, sometimes killing them........ getting that license means that you are suppossed to pass even a "psicological evaluation"........ I think the police could help altough for what u can see, they do not bother that much enforcing this law.... but in front of a "denuncia", they MUST come to terms...., but I suggest to make an inquire to a lawyer..... I think that Maria de Castro is a regular in this forum ( she is from Algeciras a bit far from Navigolf) and has a reputation ( good one).... if you like, I can point you to some lawyer friend that will charge u nothing if you call her and ask for guidance.....

Also, take a look at the "estatutes" of your community.... I think u will find that they normally only allow for small pets, dogs or cats....... but not Bengali Tigers neither 60 kgr Rotweiler.... if that is so, talk to the president or the administrator of your community as that dog MUST go... or stay "all the time" with one of these things that big dogs are SUPPOSSED to have prenting them from biting and barking...  I personnaly do not think the rules of your comunity allow for big dogs barking all the time.... Also, try approaching the owner of the flat next door.... He is responsible too..... he should have advised against the monster...which I suspect must be destroying his apartment also...

Why don´t u try poisoning the black demon?  Perhaps we could get some Polonium 235? Apparently works very well.... ( sorry, I am in a good mood today !)

Are you in a community with a  President there who SHOULD (well, maybe ) intervene on your behalf ?

I know WE, on our community, have very strict rules as to what we can/can't do.

My sympathies, Janis. I had a similar problem where I used to live, namely neighbours with a large, barking dog, locked outside all day and all night - very annoying. Very difficult to deal with. Juan, your faith in the police never ceases to astound me - we repeatedly called the police to inform them that this dog was barking 24/7 and they repeatedly told us "that's what dogs do". Had it been in the street, they probably would have taken it away, or shot it or something, but since it was on private property, they said they could do nothing. We tried communicating in a civilized manner with the (Spanish) neighbour, who told us to **** off and mind our own business, then hung a large sheet out opposite our property with a polite message for all passers-by to see, informing anyone interested that we were putas etc...and then proceeded to throw bottles and other objects at our windows. Yes, you could try going down the "denuncia" route, and good luck to you. Hope you like red tape. Yes, you could try talking to the owner of the property. We have a tenant in our community who is regularly flaunting all the rules, and in addition has caused, by their filthy living conditions, an infestation of cockroaches, now spreading to neighbours. They don't care. And furthermore, the owner of the property, who is legally responsible for any use of their property that adversely affects other residents, has said they don't care either, because the tenant is a "good payer". In these situations, your president will not be able to do much for you either - I know, I'm our president! Denounce the tenant, the owner etc.. and wait for the wheels of beauracracy to do nothing. Sorry, but as the cops say, dogs bark. The Spanish (civilized) way of dealing with this all too common problem is, unfortunately as Juan has suggested, to poison the poor dumb animal. I hope to God you don't choose this method, since the animal is not to blame - it is the owners who haven't bothered to train him, and have no respect for anybody. I much prefer animals to people, so I hope if you do decide on Polonium, you find a way to administer it to the neighbour instead.

Fortunately there is an easy solution to the satelite problem - when your property is not occupied, remove the LNB from your dish. Easy to do (and refit later) without affecting the alignment of the dish. No LNB - no signal. QED.

Thank you all for your comments.  My cleaner has been to the house this morning and spoke to the neighbours, he said that he hooked up to our satellite because the owner of the property doesnt want one on his terrace.  She left it that i would talk to him at the end of the month when i am in Spain, he did say he would pay for the privilege of using it though (cheeky bugger).

As to the dog she said it is just a pup at the moment but that doesnt help when it is jumping up and barking when you are on your own terrace, and of course pups grow.  So it looks like chatting to him when i get there, he is English by the way.

Couldnt get through to the president on Friday will try again today and see if dogs are allowed.

We had our keyholders letting people stay in our place without us knowing, using my oven and fridge for storage!

Some people just are so bare faced cheeky eh?

Janis, if the neighbour is willing to pay for using your dish, it is possible to get a twin LNB i.e. to run two cables from one dish. However, beware, the signal is not strong in Spain, and running two boxes from the one dish may affect it. If you have a 1.5m dish, it may be OK, but I would check with a specialist first (at the neighbour's expense, of course)

If you have, or can get hold of (perhaps from the administrator if the president is never available?) the estatutos (statutes) for the community, this will tell you if dogs are allowed or not. I'm not aware of many communities that do not allow them. And speaking as one who knows, even if they are banned, the president may not be able to do very much anyway.
