Hi

Just remembered. At the notary last week, our lawyer told us about the wealth tax. We did know vaguely about it, but thought it was a very small annual tax. At the notary, however, it was suggested it would be 2.1% of property value per year. At the time, we didnt really question it to be honest.

Surely this isnt correct is it?

And, while just reading the forums, I see mentions of it being abolished anyway.

So, where do we stand having just completed? What wealth tax costs can we expect?

Also, other than community fees, what other taxes (and approx amounts) can we expect to be paying and do we just get bills for these?

I thought it was 0.2%?  And if you are a resident you definitely get a big allowance for your house and for any other assets as well.  To the point where if two of you own a property you can have joint assets of nearly €600,000 before you pay anything at all.

You need an asesor to do your tax - it is your responsibility to do it, the tax office doesn't send you any reminders about it.
