Does anyone know any good shops on the costa del sol that offer good deals on sofa's? Looking for a new sofa shortly and would like to get the best deal possible, as there seems to be a lot out there that is vastly overpriced. Im around Marbella area but would travel anywhere in costa del sol for a good deal.
Kind Regards
Scott

Hi Scott,
I can't help you with a store as the only ones where we have seen any half decent sofas are in Imperial and Benitez stores which are, as you say, overpriced.
Of the more reasonably priced ones the styles and colours are more to the Spanish taste and the quality is poor .
The furniture sales in the UK have thrown up some real bargains this January and February. If only our property was finished!
Beautiful leather 3 seater plus 2 seater sofas £900 for both. Leather corner style settees between £900 and £1300, and the material covered sofas from about £300.
At £95 per cubic metre it would be worth buying in the UK and paying for it to be brought over by removal companies as a part load .
We are considering doing this after looking at the furniture packs and also in the stores mentioned above. Could you not do this? I'll bet the furniture stores, DFS etc., will have another sale this summer. The credit squeeze has meant that not much is selling at the moment.

Thanks for the reply Sandra, potentially I could do this yes, but I just cant be bothered with the hassle in all honesty. I am in the UK at the moment and could order one whilst here but, I really dont want to have to live in Spain and buy my products from the UK, it slightly defeats the purpose of living there if i am going to keep buying things from the UK. Id prefer to purchase on the coast for a few reasons, such as delivery times and damage / lost in transit stories etc.
We are only looking for a nice material covered corner sofa that has good quality and is reasonably priced, this just seems to be asking to much of Spain!!!!!!!!!

Try a shop called Garcia Peneida its located not far from Benitez. We got a very well made Spanish leather sofa from there. The quality is superb. Also it is a family business that gives good customer service. The thing you have to watch with DFS is the quality of the sofas is not good, they are all cheap mass produced imports from China. That is why the delivery times are so long as it spends 5 weeks at sea.
If you want something that is going to last then you do have to Spend a little more.

You are right about the price of sofas in the UK, much cheaper. The thing is in the UK people constantly change to keep up with the latest but with the Spanish they tend to buy furniture to last so they can justify paying the prices.
Have you considered IKEA?

We have looked at IKEA whilst in for a few other things and there is some nice stuff there to be honest.
We probably end up getting something from there as its easy , good quality and reasonabley priced.

Still searching for reasonably priced shops where you don't have to transport yourself or screw together yourself. Ikea OK for small scale items. As we're not living in Spain full time gone for mid priced items of furniture and will move own / new from UK when finally make the move in a few years time.
We've bought from Sumbel (Feungirola). Not 1st class quality but what you see is what you get. Cheaper than Imperial and sturdier than Ikea plus they deliver so no hassle with that part. That is provided your doors are wide enough..
We discovered to our cost last week that our apartment doors were too narrow for our new sofa to be delivered. No problem we'll come back tomorrow with 2 extra men and winch it up over the balcony (plus past the 2 metre high perimeter fence???) Flaw in plan was they then sent the wrong colour. As we'd told them we were returning home the following day they didn't even bother putting on the van the next day. Now have to wait until our next visit in a few weeks time.
As we'd been waiting for this sofa since November very loath to start all over again. Also bought dining set from them which was delivered on time with no trouble. It came flat packed (therefore cheapo quality) but they put it together so no hassle unlike Ikea.

We bought our sofas in the furniture shop in Calahonda on the mountain side of the road opposite the hardware store. When you walk in the selection doesn't look great but they have loads of brochures/catalogues and are very helpful and both Patricia and Katie speak fluent English. Delivery was v.efficient and they have items to suit every budget. Hope this helps.
