My car is coming up to 3 years old and I've been told it's needs an ITV test? Is that right? I don't even know where to take it for the test. Any idea of the cost?

You need the ITV when the car is 4 years old, and then every 2 years after that. If you're driving a spanish car it costs about 37€ for a diesel and a little bit less for a petrol (I'm in Almería and that´s what I paid a couple of weeks ago).
I don't know where you are situated, but if you do a search for ITV Spain on the internet, you can find a list of test centres.

You can find your nearest testing centre here: http://www.dgt.es/tramites/itv/itv.htm
My diesel car just passed it's 4 year birthday test with flying colours . Well worth making a prior appointment (cita previa) to avoid the queues. Cost €35.

Hi Barbarah
My car needed its ITV when it was 3 years old as it was bought from a rental company. If yours is also an ex-hire car it will need to be tested; otherwise it's after 4 years as Roberto says.
Best wishes
Rose
