All,

Has anyone else had a letter from BP with what look like extorninate bank charges for everyday transactions?

29€ per 6 months

0.60€ per item for administration

0.4% (min 3.75€) for branch transfers

Debit cards 28€

Appreciate they have to earn a living but what about any interest on funds they hold for us?

Anyone have any knowledge of a cheaper Spanish alternative?

Cheers,

It all depends on whether it is a resident or non-resident account. If regular payments are put in or not. What the average balance you have etc.

Those charges do seem a bit high, though. Sabadell and Caja Rural have cheaper charges for non-residents, especially the transaction charge. Ours is a res account with Bankia with regular monthly deposits and no charges. When it was a non-res ac we had €13 a qtr maintenance (1 euro a week)  €14 for a debit card but no transaction charges. Now we even get 1% back on our standing orders.

Just like UK,  you'll be very lucky to get interest on a current ac (Yes, I know you can but they are very rare and most charge a premium)  and we only get interest on our savings account (derisory though it is) and our reserve ac (even more derisory). We also get interest on our Spanish savings ac and regularly transfer funds between that and the current ac with no charges.

Ask around at other banks for friendlier charges.

Hi Bobaol,

Thanks for response.

Sorry should've said non-res account. We closed our savings account as it was costing us to actually run it even though we had plenty of money in there.

We have 2 mortgages with BP and so our DD's are regular, we deposit regular etc. We know there is no such thing as a free lunch but bearing in mind we always have several thousand euros in or account, it just pees me off that they charge us so much!

Will have a look around though.

Saludo!

Bankia used to waive the charges if you had a certain amount in the account. It was an average balance of €2000 but not sure if that is still the case. No harm in asking.

Im with Deutsche Bank and I am charged 13,47 a quarter for a res account regardless how much money is in the account.  Cant change banks because I have my morgage with them. Hate their banking system.
