Hi, I'm new to the site so don't know if this has been covered previously, so sorry if it has.

Basically, can anyone recommend a good English speaking solicitor in the Torreviaja area?

My father in law left his property in Spain to my 13 year old granddaughter, so we found a solicitor online willing to act on our behalf, but as my granddaughter is only 13 they would need power of attorney to act. That's okay for now, but the fees seem a little excessive. €4000.00 to cover POA, notary fees and applying for nie numbers etc.

The solicitor my father in law used speaks only Spanish making dealing with him difficult from here in the UK.

Cheers

Gary

In la Zenia, I use Sun Lawyers, I have since I purchased in 2008, they are helpful, and not over expensive.

Only used for purchasing and yearly tax, but they do all types, of law requirement, criminal to UK, de price the lot.

Some time you just get advisers beware

On the point of the fees.  Be aware there will almost certainly be Succession Tax (Inheritance Tax) to pay, and that varies from Region to Region, and fees to register the property in the new owners name.

A POA (poder) can only be made before a notary and for that one does not need a solicitor.  Maybe someone here can tell you how a minor can make a Poder, I did it with my son but he was over 18.

I would think that the new opener coming to Spain with a parent could sort it all out much cheaper than any other way, and if you need legal assistance,  a gestor would be just as good (certainly no worse) and a lot cheaper too than a solicitor (abogado).

Good luck

Thanks for all your help. I've now found a solicitor and hopefully not too expensive, but we'll need to see when the billsvarrive. Anyway, again thanks for your help.
