We are hoping to come over next year for 3 months with our dog.She is a 50kgs Japanese Akita, big girl with furry coat. Some folk have told me to leave her behind that the heat will kill her? There must be people out there with similar dogs, how do they/you manage with them in the heat?

Hi Merehead

Why don't you post this in here >> Taking pets to Spain

It's for anything really to do with pets in Spain.

That's some dog you've got there !

Hi Merehead,  Their are plenty of dogs in Spain a lot we met were small dogs.    But we did meet a couple that had  two Husky dogs they were beautiful I don't know their proper name but they were sitting outside a restaurant with them with two bowls of water they were panting quite a bit but they had done a bit of walking.  Hope this helps Pat

" take them on the beaches " !! Be careful where you take them as dogs, as in the UK, are not permitted on certain beaches. Having said that dog sh*t* is everywhere in Spain, especially on the sand.

Hi More, Yes I cannot stand that the Spanish have not heard of the poop and scoop, I suppose that is what it was like in England also they do not have them on leads.  The Brits by us are quite appalled by this.   Something you have to put up with I'm afraid.    Pat

Hi,
We know a lot of people here with dogs of all shapes and sizes.
Some bought over from the UK and others obtained here in Spain.
Remember that just as insulation works both way in your house, (keeping it warm in winter and cool in summer) so does fur.
Good luck.
Fiona

Fiona,

I never thought of fur in that way. Thanks for your tip.It was the heat that I was more concerned about.

With regard to the poop and scoop..we practice poop and jcb?

By the way I havent discovered how I do it yet but Im calling from a little village called Hanmer on the Welsh/Shropshire border.

Pat .(short for Patrick)!
