I have just bought a car in Spain because I have had enough of the problems with car hire companies. Now I have to start thinking about all the problems associated with car ownership. My main issue at the moment is a concern about the car sitting in the sun for months while I am back in the UK. I have decided to build a carport to protect the car from the elements. I am not really in a position to buy a ready made carport because of some limitations on the space available. I am having problems finding timber merchants to buy the wood. I know that timber is quite expensive in Spain but I want to get the best price and don't want to pay more than I have to.
Any advice on where to buy wood would be greatly appreciated. My nearest big town is San Javier.
Thank you.

Paddy, wood is very expensive in Spain.  If you are highly skilled at DIY it may be OK, but if you're not you may spend more than you think on a structure that may not be a good investment.  I've just had a gazebo built by a specialist professional as I needed a larger shaded area in the garden.

But it looks better than I could ever do and was built from treated timber so it should last a few years and I reckon the cost is more that offset by the increase in value of the property (something like minus 70% of purchase price to an improved position of only minus 69% of the purchase price!).

The firm I used cover the San Javier area - http://www.woodworksdirect.com but there are others.  I know it's not what you asked for but you might want to consider it as an alternative.  Having said that, I believe that the guy who runs the firm, Simon, may sell you just the wood in a pack format, so you can do the erection yourself if you want to reduce the cost.

Paddy, try doing a google search on "suministros de madera" and add the name of your town

And by the way, you may need a licence / permission from your town hall.

You could always put it up on axle jacks and strap a tarpaulin over it. (you should put it on axle jacks even if you build your carport)
