We know of many mixed experiences reported on dealings with legal firms in Spain - some good, some not so good. However, when it comes to being superior in terms of efficiency and responsiveness, we just have to mention Montse Gomez Ferreres, of Bernabe & Gomez. We had a particularly difficult problem in obtaining deposit refunds on two cancelled property purchases, which had gone on for nearly three years. Montse stepped in and after a few months of battling with banks, other lawyers and the Spanish judicial system, she brought both of our cases to a successful conclusion.

Before Montse got involved our cases had got bogged down with another solicitor and were going nowhere. During our time in dealing with her, she was a breath of fresh air - always courteous, patient, understanding and with an immense semse of purpose.

It is no doubt that she showed the Spanish legal profession in a positive light. She will probably be embarassed if she reads this, but with all of the negativity being thrown about, it's good to say something nice for a change.

Chwarae teg, Fair Hill.  It's very important to hear about a really good lawyer because, as you say, with the wrong one, your case can go nowhere.  It sometimes seems like pot luck as you don't usually know beforehand if the person is up to the job.  I've read of many cases on this Forum where people have paid lawyers a lot of money to screw up.  Hopefully this will happen less in the future and others in trouble might choose the lawyer you recommend.  Nos da.

I agree Eggcup. It's a case of pot luck I'm afraid. I just had to go through a bad lawyer before I found a good one. It was worth it in the end though. Hopefully, others can now avoid a similar bad experience.

Hi Tegbryn

You do not say where Bernabe & Gomez are located - I am looking for a lawyer in the Mazarron/Murcia area.

Several years ago we employed a firm of solicitors in Mazarron to undertake a conveyance.  But they failed to check that the swimming pool on our new build had been registered with the town hall.  The contractor has since gone into liquidation.  When I approached the solicitor to ask him to put matters right he made all manner of silly excuses and initially refused to do anything.  I insisted and told him that I would be obliged to issue a Denouncia whereupon he told me that I would be wasting my time as he knew the system a whole lot better than me.   Not exactly professional !

However after a while we agreed a compromise and for the sake of an easy life I agreed to contribute to the costs.  Now he has reneged on the agreement, but I am back in the UK so the Denouncia process may have to wait for a month or two.  I suspect he may be trying to delay so my claim against him is time barred.

But I feel that I should see this through even if it costs a bit to get legal help - if anyone can recommend a solicitor who may be prepared to act against another that would be very much appreciated.

Hi Acer,

I don't envy your experiences. I am not sure to what extent Montse would be restricted by her location. She is

quite happy to be contacted on 0034968239718 or on her mobile 0034649818363. She wili probably be able to assist

you. Good luck and regards   -   Tegbryn
