Hi
Can anyone tell us if the rumour that we have heard is true, that in Spain everything closes down for the month of August including the builders solicitors etc.
We have just got word that our apartment is now complete and are awaiting for the property to be signed off by the town hall. Anyone know how long this takes?
We have booked for the last two weeks in September to come over, but was now wondering if this is a realistic timescale taking into consideration any snagging that would need carried out before we take possession.
Thanks
Alan & Arlene

Hi Jaime
We have just got in touch with our agents to be told that the builders have to stop work because they cannot obtain licences from the Town Halls as they shut and the solicitors take their holidays. So, in answer to your question, it would appear that Spain does shut in August. We can only take our agent's word.
Hope this helps.

Hi Mike and Gill
This was what we feared. Thanks for confirming this for us, just hope the town hall sign off our property before the end of this month.
Thanks again for getting back to us. Much appreciated.

August is the official month of holidays in Spain. There is a long trail of cars through Spain down to the costas from the North. While things continue to function that is barely all it is. There will be some Notaries working and the banks will still be open but a great many of the lawyers close down completely or alternatively run on skeleton staff. Additionally those left behind to continue working have double the workload but also feel deprived as they should be on holiday too. Definite evidence of the work to live culture that we all enjoy here. Construction work almost stops completely although why August temperatures are considered worse than working in July God only knows. There is a noticeable slowdown although there will still be completions and some of us will still be working a normal day.
