Electricity Bill

We have a property in spain which has been empty for 4 years.  The electricity was cut off and the meter removed.  We have now been informed that there was electricity going to the property and therefore they have decided that we owe them 4300euros!! Which in fact is 80euros per month over the last 4 years.  We have assured that the property was empty but they will not reconnect the electircity.  Help!!  They have said that if we get the consumption of water over the last 4 years they will calculate against this.  Could anyone give us advice on a) can we get water consumption from Aquagest for the last 4 years and b) what else can we do!!

a.    Ask the water company !!

b.     Get a competent solicitior (just how you can be sure at the outset that the one you get is competent, is anyone's guess.  When the matter is finished then you will know if you were 'lucky' with your choice )

PS What do the electricity company say happened to the bills 'they sent' and why did they go on supplying when the bills were not paid.  Maybe the company have your property confused with another.    Something odd here.

 I agree - something very odd going on there.  It may be that the electric company are asking for the last 4 years water bills to prove that the house was unoccupied.   Presumably the electric company have produced the bills to back up their claim for the eur4300?  It is of course possible to get electricity into a house despite the meter being removed but that would mean that it was occupied, wouldn't it?  All very strange and definitely needs some detective work.
