Most mutinationals will have something to offer you offshore

If you are asking for a onshore uk operation that will do both its probably got to be citi bank the US company

http://www.citibank.co.uk/

High fees if I remember

Depends what you need it for.

This must be a new account - Barclays only used to offer a euro account for 'personal wealth' customers.

Looks like the downside is no debit card and also you have to have a sterling account there as well. It looks to me like they are trying to encourage transfers between the two accounts so making lots of money on the FX no doubt.

Thank you everyone. Re HSBC I already bank with them, and yes they do  have a euro account, however they don't offer the service I require, ie transfer stirling into euros and back if the rate is suitable. I have to actualy go to the bank myself, can't do it online or by phone.

gwm, if it's just for transfering money to Spain then you are probably better off using a currency broker instead of the bank, as the rates are normally better.

Of course, especially with the established ones.  That's how most people move money abroad.

As you probably know we've had a long relationship with Moneycorp and I've yet to hear of a single complaint about them.

But talk to a few and see what you think.  It does make financial sense most of the time to go down this route and it's quite normal.

Halifax who are now in partnership with LLoyds in Spain are very helpful, I have a Halifax account in the UK & Spain which allows me to transfer funds without fees. They will help you with all day to day banking in both countries.

I used to transfer between halifax (now Loyds int) but found that the ex/ rates were going poor.

I now use http://www.torfx.com/, to send all my transfers, they offer all the usual needs, 1 off transfers are a minimum of £2k.

I transfer money to a dedicated uk account then they send the money over usually 3 days, thats the spanish end delaying it more than them.

I was recomended to them, you get a single person to contact, I checked them through FSA & Company registration.

Up to you.

Jon

 Hi Jon,

When I signed up with Halifax Espania in 2006 the deal I obtained from them was to keep €600 in the current account and we would have no expenses other than the €25 annual fee. This works with the UK account with Halifax/LLoyds as well as the Spanish Account.  We have never have any problems.

Doedoe.

The halifax XTRA account is just 12.5e each a year I believe no cash limit, you may also get a 9euro non res, but they all get that, no the biggest problem I felt was the movement from a uk halifax to the spanish halifax accounts though no charge, the rate you used to get was around 2 or cents off the bank rate dependant on amount you send, more the merrier, but it started to be less and less to you got more from the torist at the post office.

I still have my halifax Xtra account but I use TORFX to send monies.

I ddnot know about other accounts, when I looked you had to have between 1000e at santan to 600e with others.

to pay service bils there are no charges on my account to transfer to another ES bank it is a small charge, My mortgage is 580e in another account every month, I get charged 1.5e

I know it is a bit of a pain for larger sums, but ever thought about the CaxtonFX eurocard - prepaid Master/Visa card? Set up on-line transfer the just log on, transfer up to 5000 euros at a time (they give a slightly better rate than the going day-rate) and then draw it out in Espana and pay into your Spanish account in cash. Free to get one, free to load and free ot use in any euro cashpoint - can't get much cheaper than that!

Steve.
