Socialist Spain? No way, Jose
| The Comments |
I am spending a couple of working months in Latvia; a much under-rated beautiful country and happily recommend it. Here, people here were horrified to see on their TV News bulletins images of Spanish police clubbing protestors; especially beating women demonstrators who were obviously non aggressive. Many protestors were bleeding; one poor woman whilst cowering on the ground was being clubbed by a brutal cop. The injured were not being placed in ambulances but shoved into police vans.
Have these idiots no idea – or don’t they care about the effects such images have on northern Europeans? The sight of a policeman clubbing a woman is anathema to Scandinavians, Balts and many others. Apart from such action being wrong it is another own goal of many. Between barbaric attitudes towards animals, corruption, complacency in attracting tourists, the land grab and much else, Spain seems to be determined to turn its image abroad to something akin to Communist Albania. Like you, I invested in Spain. I can do without my investment being clubbed senseless by a Spanish thug in the state's uniform.
