Alicante airport to my place at Corvera is almost exactly one hour door to door and the airport will be 4 mins away, As for distance try google maps and it should tell you exactly.

Latest estimate is end of the year, so in Spanish time that's got to be Spring/Summer 2012.

below is a rough translation of courses they are running for those who want to work at the new Corvera airport, so probably wont be opening for a long time, dont think landing slots have been designated yet. So, if you want to work there, speaking English is a main requirement!!!

We said you in that one occasion that the English is a fundamental requirement but we had few data on the professional profiles that were going away to require. We know now them and you have of term until the 10 of February for apuntarte them. 02/02/2011 | PORTALPARADOS.ES The formative supply includes the specialties of Technician of operation and maintenances CGA, Agent of services in incline, Agent of airport services, airport Surroundings, Services of airport cleaning, airport Security, Permission of conduction in platform, airport, Dependent Office staff of services airport centers, Services of restoration in airport center, Agent of platform, Fireman of airport, Watchman of security and Attention to people with reduced mobility. On the other hand, the SEF will make the selection of the students between use plaintiffs, with special attention to the residents in population centers directly affected by the aerodrome, like the Martinez of the Port, Corvera or Valladolises. The term of inscription will be open until the 10 of February. The Municipal Service of Use will initiate of immediate form the proceeding of hiring of the 15 courses, that will be able to be distributed as of the next spring and must have concluded in November. The interested ones that they are resident in Murcia, can go to ask for information to the Agency of Local Development (Azarbe Street of the paper). Finally, all the process will last about 11 months and will have a cost of 575,000 Euros, contributed by the SEF and co-financed to the 80 percent by the European Social Bottom. These courses will allow to form to near 1,000 unemployed ones in the professional profiles that Airport will require the future the International of Corvera. Article in today's Sunday Express about 'white elephant' airports being built in Spain.  States that the new Covera Airport will probably never open.

Try the link below which has a totally different take

http://www.laverdad.es/murcia/v/20110603/region/aeropuerto-corvera-toma-forma-20110603.html

I've heard whisphers about them brining up San Javiers limitations due to it being a shared military airport.  I wonder if that means San Javier is at risk in the future.  Interesting thought.

Llamacalmer, where does the report say Corvera Airport will never open?

The report I read in Laverdad states Corvera Airport takes shape and maintains its opening date.

We were told by a friend last night that there is a major delay in that one of the runways is not long enough.

Has anyone else heard this or how can we verify it?

From our house we have been hearing test flights recently. We live less than 10 km. away from the airport.

http://www.murciatoday.com/corvera-may-not-be-operational-until-summer-2013._11138-a.html

We've been waiting for the new airport at Castellon for years, now it seems the runway isn't wide enough for planes to turn round. They were all just a big money making scam methinks.

According to my husband who flies over quite often there is only one runway and it is plenty long enough. Now scheduled to open Spring 2013, we will see.
