A question for any electrician who may be on this forum or to anyone that may know. I am thinking of taking some light fittings, recessed downlights for the kitchens / bathrooms and wall fittings does anyone know if items purchased in the UK will work or is compatible with the electric system in Spain? As far as I know it should be OK but I would like to double check before going to time and trouble of taking stuff from UK to Spain.

It's all the same flavour electricity, 220 volts, so no problem. Unless these particular fittings are especially dear to you, you can buy the same stuff here without any difficulty though. Why bother bringing them from UK?

Thanks Roberto, I am thinking of getting it from UK as my brother in law has an electrical wholesale business here and I can get the fittings at virtually cost price!

Very good point about the bulbs, Janice. It's so long since I last changed a bulb in Blighty, I forgot what they're like! Kind of assumed Europe's all standard, but then I also remember something about cars having the steering wheel on the wrong side as well?

Just goes to show, those of us who live here permanently don't necessarily know best!  I hope RG reads your post before committing. I could be in trouble.

Hi all, I will(with a bit of luck) be occuping Eagle 14-14. I am a fully qualified electrical technician mainly industrial but can offer advice and assistance with domestic issues. The voltage over here is nominally about 230v but it can fluctuate quite a lot. Other than that all your equipment from home will function normally.

Cheers Ray

Hi Ray, If the voltage fluctuates would it be an idea to surge protect sensitive items such as computers TV's etc?

Power cuts are also far more common than you are accustomed to in UK, so a battery back-up for your computer isn't a bad idea also.
