Macro

Can someone tell me if Makro at Malaga is similar to the ones in the UK and do they stock the same sort of goods.

I don't own in that area, but seeing as no-one has replied, I thought I would!

I suggest you go on Macro's UK website, get a contact address/phone no or e-mail and ask them.

They may even have a link to their Spanish website for Macro?

Worth a shot.

Thanks Fibby, I have now looked up website and it looks as if they are similar (going by the pictures), surprised to see though they have stores all over Spain.

 

You can only get a Makro card here if you have a business activity. It's not open to the general public. Makro in Malaga stocks everything from food & drink to garden furniture and hardware. All prices are shown excluding IVA (VAT) since most customers will be claiming back IVA anyway, so be careful when comparing prices. Often you will find it's actually no cheaper than the major supermarkets, most people use it for the convenience of buying in bulk, & avoiding the public crowds in supermarkets.

If you have a UK Makro card you can use it in Spain

Don't know where you got that info from, but I used to live in Mallorca, where I had a business. When I moved to Malaga, I went to Makro expecting to use my card from Mallorca, but was told I had to apply for a new card here. The Mallorca card was not acceptable. This may have changed now, and looking at the Spanish Makro website, it does seem to suggest that not only can you use your card at any of the 34 stores throughout Spain now, you can also use it at stores abroad. However, this is Spain, so don't bank on the Malaga store accepting your UK card - no matter how much fuss you kick up!

I searched the Makro UK website, but couldn't find anything about it, whereas the Spanish site does say you can use your card abroad. Strange. Let us know what happens?!

I was at Makro (Malaga) today, so asked at the information desk about using a UK Makro card here. Reply: NO PROBLEM!

Amazing how things have changed - it seems globalization is catching on even in Spain. Admittedly it was 5 years ago, but when I tried to use my card from Makro (Mallorca) here, they looked at me like I'd just arrived from another planet!
