HI Irene.

Over the years I have had to deal in various ways with dog owners in England who have let their dogs foul public areas.

I have found that most dog owners are thoughtful and responsible in keeping the public areas clean.  However there are always a few who will not comply with any request to clean up  the area after the mess has been caused.  That is why you need some deterrent , so that they will be inconvenienced in some way, either a fine or a ban on walking the dog in certain areas.

That leads me to the point, that Don Juan although privately owned by individuals, but because of the fact that some of the apartments will be rented out,  possibly makes this then a public area?,  which requires it to be kept clean of dog muck.

Although I think dogs are by far the best pet that a person can have,  they do need to be kept under control.  There is ample space nearby to exercise the dog without having to take them on lawn areas that have been well looked after by the gardeners, who may possibly object to clearing up after the dog has fouled .

I do believe that this topic does need to be voted on by the community at the next meeting, I would vote to ban dogs from being exercised on maintained lawns.  Max does explain things as they are, not in particular what he wants for himself.

                                                                                                                                                                  All the best Bevron.

Hi

I have a friend that has a apartment in Riviera del sol  and the place is covered in dog mess. They have no rules about this and nobody seems to care. If that happened at Don Juan it would be a very bad thing indeed.

This should be nipped in the bud now and a fine imposed on offenders.

Maybe a few signs just reminding owners would be a good idea.

Its not fair on other people to get this mess on their shoes or for kids to play in a dog toilet.

Max has said that its not to bad and most people clean up after their dog so hopefully  we wont end up like Riviera del sol .

Andy

I still have to find muck and I make lots of rounds over the whole area on a daily basis. However I now am certain that the two Spanish residents with a dog do pick it up and put in a plastic bag. There is one other dog in the area which leads me to a question: is it custom in other countries to pick up the muck yourself? In the Spanish residencies I have been in, it clearly was the default.

Irene sorry but what I saw was the dog in question, not on a lead in the grass area in front of your block. I also saw the lady in the road and she did not appear to have any means to clear up with her. I did not actually see the dog do anything so cannot say I saw her let the dog go and fail to pick up. If I had I would have spoken to her myself.

All the Spanish owners carry bags and use them (all two of them). One English owner doesn't and we have also some stray dogs.

I know what your saying Irene but there were a few stray dogs running about when I was last over. I know they were stray because we saw them on the campo the day before. I am in block 9 and they went right past our balcony so its possible that its not a pet from Don Juan. If it is a pet from Don Juan then that is another story but im sure its the campo dogs looking for food on Don Juan.

Oh did you have a nice time Irene?.

Dear all,

Reading these posts on the other end of Europe I am wondering by myself what is the profit for people at home to read this while there are far more important issues to discuss on this board about Don Juan.

Ofcourse a topic as dog muck is in interest of us all but should be handled on ad hoc basis at the "place delict " and in my opinion NOT here on the message board unless the problem cannot be solved by attempts locally.

So please limit the amout of new threads and think about if the subject is really worth it.

Best regards,

René

Dear Rene

Have you ever heard of Toxocarisis?. There is nothing wrong with trying to get Don juan to be free from dog muck. Nearly all dog mess carries Toxocarisis and nearly all people that get infected and get eye conditions are children. I think the eyesight of our children is  very important and keeping Don Juan free of dog mess is a very worthwhile issue to raise.

You dont have to read posts if you dont want too . Some people put the health of their children higher than their holiday apartment and I for one hate dog mess all over the place and think it is very unhygenic and is worth a mention on here.

Andy

Dear Andy,

Ofcourse I heard of it, I am a chemist

And ofcourse I want DJ to be kept clean

If you have concerns about the toxocarisis I can mention that due to the heat there the risk will only be for fresh dog muck intil it has dried out.

So based on risk:

-not every dog has this worm

- the egges will be killed if dried

- potential risk that a child gets in contact is very low

If you are concerned about childrens eyes please look at the use of unauthorised swimming pools. The installation is not checked at all and even the water quality is not checked, the pool could be full with harmfull bacteria like Coli.

On the other hand if the Chlorine content is too high bacteria will be killed but serious eye damage is possible.

These risks are thousands of times higher!!

The only commet I have on some posts is to keep things clear and don't use this board as a chatbox.

Best regards,

René

Ok Andy,

Someone has to be the wise guy!

If this is the way you are communicating then I will be the smart one and end the discussion that leads to noting.

Best regards,

René
