I am looking for some advice.

We recently came over to NM where we have a ground floor apartment in Portal 1.

It is the first time we have been over since the electricity was fully on and the lifts began working.

During the day we noticed the noise from the power plant in the parking area as we came in and out of the block but didnt think to much of it until that evening.

However the noise of the plant continued through out the night with a running motor which sounded like the lift motor gears moving every 20 seconds or so. We thought it was the lift being used initially (this was about 9pm) but the noise continued all night with it being so bad it could be heard in both my sons bedroom and ours and it was impossible to get any sleep.

I have emailed the Chair of the Urbanisation as this cannot be right. Surely this power plant must be sound proof or at the very least the lift motor system must be suitable for a residential block or the noise reduced at night. I am writing to find out if other residents have this problem in other blocks (I guess it must only affect the lower floors) or anyone has any solutions to this as not only does it affect are enjoyment of the apartment but are ability to sell the property in the future if we so wished.

I would be grateful for any comments and advice as this is very worrying

Hi Lee

Are you saying you emailed me?  I don't seem to have a record of it.

We haven't had any other complaints but I will ask the engineers to come in and take a look to see what we can do.

Will let you know ASAP.

Regards

Justin

We must have some problem with email as I did respond to you original email.

We have had the motors checked and they are fine.  We were very confused at first as you said that they clicked evey 20 seconds.  Well obivously they shouldn't do this.

However, we did find a problem with one of the water pumps and that one had been clicking on and off as it was faulty.  That is most likely what you heard and not the lift motors.  We are in the process of fixing the water pump.

Hope that helps.

Justin

Thanks very much for your help and hopefully that has resolved the matter.

Perhaps I added to the confusion with the noise as the lift plant room was the only thing I could think of.

Clearly though the issue of the noise every 20 seconds or so was a major factor for us and hopefully if the water pump was doing something similar and was faulty that must be the cause

Take Care and thanks for your help

Lee

Hi Lee

Yes, this has been sorted now.

It was definitely this you were hearing, the lift motor is right at the top of the lift shaft!
