I have used them many times and have had no problems at all with the cars I have hired, although until you make your booking you do not know which hire company the booking is with.

They are good initially with cheap deals but watch the heavy fuel charges and out of hours charge if picking up late at Alicante. Try Auriga Crown as they have just re launched their service with some cheap deals to be had and Costa Coches are also very good with no fuel charges. Jon Faulkner

We've used Do You Spain many times for both Murcia & Alicante

Overall I have found them to be pretty good although they stopped doing the 2nd free driver which annoyed me and recently I have used Economycarehire more often. Also I used to like Auriga Crown which we seemed to be allocated on most visits but they are now closed at San Javier so you run the lottery of who you are going to get.

Best thing about them is that you do not need to pay until arrival so I prebook all mine in advance and keep checking the prices a couple of weeks before departure. More often than not I find the price drops so I just cancel and rebook

We always used Do You Spain without any problem until about a couple of years ago when our 3 day car hire with goldcar more than doubled in price with additional extras.

We now use easyoption.com where the price you see on the website is the amount you actually pay. An English run company, you're met at the airport, good quality cars, no additional driver or insurances and you just have to return the car with the same amount of fuel that you had when you picked it up.

It's not Do You Spain that's the problem - it's the car hire companies they use. Once you get to the airport they'll try and claw back as much money as they can through extras.

dYS are usually very good BUT ask to swap if you are allocated Goldcar as they are a bunch of scamming gits. The rest of the companies offered are fine though. DYS are not a car hire co but a facilitator/comparison co. I went to costa coches directly last time and was really impressed. Unusually, on that occasion DYS were dearer. Arlene.

We agree. We have used DYS countless times but if they allocate GOLDCAR ask them to change it even if it means paying a few euros more!

DYS will change the hire co an honour the rate is you get allocated a co you don't like - in my case Goldcar. You just ask them and they swap.

We use DoYouSpain all the time and generally have had no problems. The only thing I don't like about them is, as I think has already been mentioned, you don't know which company you're renting with until you've actually made the booking and you get the confirmation through. But if you don't like who you're booked with just call them and they'll change it without a problem.

We usually fly to Madrid and drive down from there, and the last time we made a booking it turned out it was for a company based outside the airport. We couldn't be bothered faffing about with shuttle buses and stuff with a 4 hour drive ahaead of us, so I phoned and got the booking changed. It was quick and easy, they just selected the cheapest option with a company based in the airport and then billed me for the difference. The few times I've had to call them to make changes to the booking I've found the staff helpful and efficient.

Only one real problem I've had.... the last time we pre-paid the booking in full as from Madrid you sometimes get it a bit cheaper that way, but when we collected the car we had to pay an extra charge for some tax that they said hadn't been included. I meant to follow that up with DoYouSpain when I got back home but it wasn't that much, 16 Euros I think, and I must admit I forgot about it until I saw this thread, so not sure if the error was with DoYouSpain or the hire company. Also we got a free upgrade which took the sting out of it a bit. But it has kind of put me off pre-paying my bookings from now on, as the extra I had to pay more or less cancelled out the saving I was supposed to have made in the first place.

Doyouspain. No not anymore. Total total total rip off. They gave me a voucher showing car hire for 89.44 Euros for 4 days over Easter, plus 35 euros to return it to a different airport. Total 125 euros (near enough).

Unlike "Auriga Crown" They then charged me 70 euro's for a tank of fuel I knew I would not use. Did not even use half a tank.

Plus another 40 Euros for "compulsary" insurance because I'm paying by debit not credit card. Something I've always done with others. Total 235 euros for 4 days car hire.

Just got off the phone to DYS. They said you always get charged for a full tank of fuel. Then put it in the price and stop trying to kid everyone how cheap you are (NOT). Same with debit card payment. Let it be known you will have to take out extra "compulsary" insurance (WHY???????????) if you pay by this method.

I never get ripped off by the same people twice. So big ADIOS to DYS. And a big ADIOS to yep you guessed it GOLDCAR. But dont lay it all on Goldcar's doorstep. DYS know whats going on. They just want to create the ILLUSION you are getting a cheap deal.

But thanks to all the people on CdA Easter weekend. It was still the best Easter weekend I've had that I can remember. Which softens the blow.

That's one of the reasons I like hiring from Madrid. As well as the cars being generally newer and of a higher spec than those hired from Alicante and San Javier, all the companies there operate a full-full fuel policy, so you don't pay anything up front and only pay for the fuel you actually use.

Hi Frank

I think it is more likely to be Goldcar's fault rather than DYS as the same thing happened to me with the insurance ie DYS say it's fully comp then Goldcar tries to charge you more when you arrive to collect your car.  I was spitting nails.  I think that Goldcar has possibly lost many thousands of pounds in bookings since that day almost 4 years ago just through this website alone.  I diss them at every opportunity.

Sometimes Auriga Crow charge you for fuel and sometimes they don't.  It seems to be a hit or a miss.

I did complain to DYS about Goldcar and since then have never allowed them to allocate Goldcar to me.  Yes - you are still right to be p'd off with DYS as they must know what Goldcar are up to.

Be very careful with this company.  I hired a car & collected from Drivalia. When collecting my car, they asked if I wanted full insurance  to which I replied no, the basic is fine.

Then after receiving the bill weeks later, they added full insurance. After MANY emails to DoYouSpain they will do nothing.

Finally admitting the following:

" Dear Mr W

We are really sorry about this situation as we do not like in any case to happen. The agents of the local office normally have a commission for the insurances that they sell. Because of that they may use techniques to sell these extra insurances.

Unfortunately, this is a situation that we cannot directly control. We have taken the appropriate measures to avoid that and we hope that this will not happen again.

kind regards.

Javier Moliner "

Admitting using "techniques" to swindle you, the customer out of extra money !!

Be very careful... I will never use DoYouSpain again !

I don't think you can blame doyouspain as it wasn't them who swindled you, rather it was the company allocated to you.

If you're not happy with the company allocated to you, you can ask beforehand for another company.

Be aware, though if you refuse the additional insurance some companies like Dickman's then swipe your credit card to the tune of 700 euros. You do get the money back but obviously lose as you're charged both ends by your credit card company as we found to our cost in September.

To be perfectly honest, we always try to book through Greg, who is on site at Condado as there are absolutely no hidden charges whatsoever and he picks you up and drops you back to the airport. Yes, his cars aren't the newest, but we've always found them perfectly adequate. His website is www.cheapholidaycar.net and email is cheapholidaycar@gmail.com.

Lynn

Have booked through Do You Spain on the 3 occasions we have been to Condado and generaly find their service quite good. You do get charged extrats such as full tank of fuel at overpriced rates and they want you to take the extra insurance but if you do then we have had absolutely no problems with either Do You Spain or the rental companies.

Basically, on each rental occasion regardless of what you pay for the car hire through Do You Spain, the whole rental costs about 200euros. You can choose to take an annual excess waiver policy out in the UK to cover any of the extras they try to charge you for but you will still have to leave your deposit and credit card details in case something happens and I expect your car is examined closely on return for any damage.

On each occasion we have hired we have neither bothered to check for scuffs and scrapes on collection or return - we are covered.

That said, might try easyoption.com next year as their prices look attractive.

Agree that it was not DoYouSpain who cheated me out of the extra insurance. However, when they were challeged by me, they said nothing could be done & to go back to the company I ordered through which was DYS. Took months to get to this stage with no success getting a refund. Instead they openly admit that the agents they use use tactics to get customers to take the extra insurance. If I was offered the insurance & was happy to pay then fine. For me, they asked if I wanted the full insurace, which I declined & they billed me anyway!

Drivalia was the onsite agent based in Alicante airport.  Wont be using either company again.

Having tried other companies over the years Ham has been hiring cars via DoYouSpain for the past three years &  we are over @ least three times a year I can say that he has always been happy with the cars & the companies he has used. I do agree that it is not DYSpain that relieved you of your hard earned cash but am surprised that they seemed unwilling to help you resolve the problem.

We have used most of the car hire company's listed in this thread. I was disappointed at the way we were treated last October by the girl behind the desk at DYS. Would not give up on the extra insurance to the point of being rude. We have never taken extra insurance ever. We will give DYS a miss next time. Our friends were bullied into the extra insurance and again will not use them again either. I always take a few pictures of the cars condition before driving away from the airport an  the same shots on return. And because I had not took extra insurance the girl who took the keys back was very rude. Something unfortunately you have to accept from DAY. Not for me anymore. The petrol hike happens with them all but service is worth paying for.

Fozzer, DYS dont have a desk at any airport, they facilitate car hire through different companies who DO have a desk at the respective airports!

DYS dont sell Insurance the car hire companies do that at theairport if you fall for it.
