Recently there was a problem when the main gas supply pipe was cut by construction works to the site and this was resolved but shortly after ths the bills came in and they seemed excessive compared to last year so I formally complained to Virtus Energia and they spent 2 days onsite checking the installations and testing the meters
Gas is expensive in Spain but the results of the testing was that there were no faults with the meters and the following statement was received form the gas company
Dear Mr Howitt
We would like to inform you that we did not have any leak into the main resort, we had a problem with the gas supply so Virtus Energia sent its maintenance company to the resort and as we checked the installations we noticed there was a blockage in one the regulation ramps so we proceeded to close it and to open the reserve line, we did not flushed the pipes with nitrogen, we did not flushed the pipes.
We then had to reset the gas boilers of some affected property owners and we purged the gas installation for a quicker reset of the gas supply. This purge consists on the opening of the valve, placed at the counters input key, and checking that in fact there is a gas entry on the installation before the gas enters the system, so measurement in the gas counter does not get affected at all.
Therefore there are no mistakes in your readings and your meter is correct
The consumption is normal if compared with the same period of last year, and this is what we checked, so they realized that there wasn´t any mistakes in the meters or in the readings, and of course, if we realize that there are some cases with a mistake (because we wrote the reading wrongly) we would adjust it in our next invoice.
Moreover, we explain them, with our technicians what the problem was and how we solved it, as I have explained to you in the previous paragraph.

There are a few things that you can do to reduce bils including installing a wireless thermostat and timer, cost around €130 and because each radiator has it's own thermostatic valve turn off the radiatiors in rooms not being used
Also it is less expensive to use the airconditioning to heat the property, same process though as you should close vents in rooms not being used
