It's that time of year when we start wondering when the beach club will open.

Anyone heard anything yet?

We were over at  Easter for a week to try and get our snagging finalised, and there was a rumour going round that the Beach Club had actually opened for a day or two then. Seemed odd.

Not so odd opening at Easter - for a few days only I think though. Many of the Spanish who own apartments on Roda come over for Semana Santa and no doubt it was opened to try and get some business from them and the visitors to La Manga.

The last I heard it would be opening for the Spanish School Holiday - in our town they break up on 23rd June. This is also about the time the ferry starts to run again from Santiago de Ribera to Puerto Tomas Maestro.

Spoke to one of the guys in the roda rental office last week ( where you book to go to the beach club ) he informed me that there would be no bus shuttle service to the beach club ( via ferry ) any more as in previous years they contracted a private company to run the shuttle service & it isn't a viable option, so anyone who wants to go to the club will have to make their own way there, either driving around to it or to go to santiago de la ribera catch the ferry then taxi to the club.

We visited the Beach Club last Friday ( 22 July 2011 ) , and I am afraid to report that after the usual 45 mins + drive , we found it in a disgraceful state

The swimming pool was full of sand and other debris , and quite honestly looked like no one cared

I will post some pictures so you can see what I mean

It would appear that Roda Golf and Beach Resort is now just plain old Roda Golf. Linda has had two conversations with two owners and on arrival at the Beach Club they were told it was no longer owned by Roda and we cannot use it unless we pay. I think the price was 10€ each. Can anyone else confirm this?
Reading the last post it seems no great loss, but as a lot of us rent out and we make the beach club part of  the attraction coming on holiday to Roda, plus a lot of owners websites are using this as a selling point  perhaps we should have been informed of this change. Has anyone been  formal ly told of the changes

It would appear to be true. My friends went to the club on Wednesday with our card to prove they were owners and were told that they would have to pay €10 to get in.

They came away very angry - as am I.

Where do we go from here?

Dave/Lyndy

We personally feel the same as you - my husband uses your exact phrase!
But for some unknown reason our friends and renters think is is a really good place to go and adds to the value of Roda.

Hi,

We went to Beach Club early July, showed our owners card and had no problem getting in. There was a large board in the entrance with prices etc, stating free entrance to Roda owners. Had enjoyable couple of hours, pool was clean, about dozen people there including us. Would not have been very happy if we had made the journey and they had the cheek to ask for 10euros!

As I posted in another thread, we visited in early July and think we were probably the only residents there.  We had to sign in and didn't have to pay the 10 euros, because we showed our owners' card.  However, people were walking in off the road and using the facilities until eventually someone asked them to pay up.  We then had to argue for our discount and to add the final insult John was asked to pay for the use of a towel in the changing rooms, which didn't go down too well and he didn't pay.  You have to look very hard for any sign of any connection to Roda, mostly it just says Collados.

We came away with very mixed feelings - it did look wonderful, but we were pretty annoyed at the treatment, which tended to spoil the day.

I also made the point in my previous posting about those who rent out needing to change their websites etc.  It appears Roda can do this to us without fear of reprisal, but in the UK we have laws to make sure we get what we pay for!

The Calidona/Roda website is still marketing the Beach Club

http://www.rodagolf.com/Item~Item~serviciosbeachclub~lang~EN.html

with no mention of additional costs but as many of us have seen from Golf Rights Holders to Owners who rent, Roda would appear to have no interest in running the resort themselves by franchising out many facilities and Roda seem to be prepared to go back on almost each and every promise ever made until someone feels they can take them to court.

Interesting thing is the Beach Club was apparently an attraction to many of the Spanish buying at Roda, wonder how they feel about paying an entry fee.

Rumour has it that the beach club has been sold bu Calidona. There is no longer any reference to Roda when you go there.

My friends told me "It was heaving" with unruly teenagers and kids!

Sad - considering we all bought into "An exclsuive, private beach club"

I'm sure Calidona will inform us soon, NOT!  Surely this must be in breach of our contract?

Depends what you mean by contract. We don't seem to have one. We have

  • Escritura - apartment, garage and trastero are mentioned. Not club house or beach club
  • Community rules - again no mention of club house or beach club
  • Loads of pre-sales literature and news letters - mentions the club house and beach club but not what we were TOLD we were entitled to.

The rodgolf.com website still blasts the beach club all over it but doesn't say on whjat basis.

Personally - I think we are being royally stuffed and it would not surprise me in the slightest if they have sold the beach club to build the club house at Corvera.
