I made my purchase at El Mirador de Sucina via Medsea Estates.  It appears that they have now gone out of business.  Has anyone been given a date for completion of the apartments?

That does not surprise me as I have been waiting on an inspection report for the last 4 weeks.  I keep getting told that it will be done this week and the next and the next and so on.  I have had no contact from them for about 12 weeks although I am meant to complete at the end of April.  Where did you get the information from ?

I was due to receive a report on the building work after 9th March.  When I did not receive any report I emailed Leah Rouse the office manager but she did not reply. I then sent an email to the info email address and still no reply.  I found a phone number on their website and tried that but was advised the number was out of order.  I then phoned Lets Live Abroad in Glasgow yesterday and the director there said he couldn't get in touch with Medsea and the company was owed commission by them.  He advised me to get in touch with my solicitor.  A mortgage broker from Medsea was meant to get in touch with me to help me arrange a mortgage but no word from him either.  With the completion date looming I don't know who is going to advise me when I should be going out to Spain.  Have emailed the Spanish solicitor but think I will visit solicitor here to find out what my situation is.

I will be in the same position as you as Medsea are meant to make the flight arrangements with their clients and pay for our accomodation before the completion date . I will try to contact them tomorrow and contact my solicitor in Spain to see if I can find anything out.

It might be worth posting "Medsea Estates" on the home page as I am sure they will have sold a lot of properties on different development.  Someone else might know something about this.

I have had a response to my email to Golf Invest today.  They state Medsea are still operative and visited the site 2 weeks ago.  The complex is just about complete with the pool being tiled and the road resurfaced.  They are expecting sign offs to start from 15th April.  I have again emailed Leah at Medsea seeking a response to my queries. Will provide update when received.

I managed to get through to Medsea but they would not confirm if a site inspection was done 2 weeks ago.  They said that they would find out if inspection was done and if so they would send out report.  I wont hold my breath as their after sales is on a scale of ZERO.  They said that they are not going out of business but I dont expect the truth from them.  They have told so many lies in the past.  If I receive report I will let you know

I tried phoning Medsea today and a message said the office is closed until Tuesday 21st April - how bizarre is that! From conversation with a member of their staff yesterday it appears Leah the office manager no longer works there. Pity she didn't tell me about the long closure over Easter.  Feel like I'm banging my head off a brick wall!

Well Well ! I guess we will not be receiving the inspection reports any time soon.  I called Lets Live Abroad and apparently there is quite a lot of their staff  lost their jobs.

Something is not quite right.

Hi Caza,

Looks like we are on our own to complete.  I was in Sucina last week but did not manage to see Paco as he was apparently at the Notories.  I was at the lawyers and according to them there is nothing legally they can do to have someone represent us for the completion.  Our lawyer says we need to go to Murcia for NIE number and they cannot go with us.  They reckon that we will need to be there for a week to complete everything and Golf Invest are not willing to pay another agent to carry out the duties that Medsea were meant to carry out.  As far as I am concerned this was part of the package when we purchased the property but according to the lawyer that is not in our contract.  So tough luck.

So it looks like we need to pay for flights, accomodation for a week, hire a car, find all the places that we have to attend on our own and if we need someone to represent us as far as understanding the lingo and checking any documents before we sign we have to pay for this ourselves.  They had the cheek to ask me if I wanted an ex employee of Medsea to represent us as some of them have started up on their own and are looking for work.  If they had carried out their duties correctly in the first place they may still be in business.  They are the last people I would pay for this service.

When are you due to complete or have you already completed ?

Hi Friendly

Know how you feel.  I've been totally stressed out since Easter trying to sort things out and arrange mortgage.  I'm booked to go out to Murcia on 5th July for 10 days.  The Spanish solicitor has put me in touch with Leah from Medsea who used to send the 2-monthly updates.  I don't think the staff are to blame for Medsea's financial problems.  It seems from internet stories that it is the owner of Medsea who pulled the plug and left his staff high and dry. For a fee she will assist me get my NIE number and take me to the apartment.  She could pick me up at airport as well but I have booked a private rental apartment and I've been told the caretakers of the apartment will pick me up.  Not keen on driving in Spain as I will be on my own. I was put in touch with the Cam Bank regarding a mortgage but eventually arranged a mortgage through my own bank here.  It's easier to deal with people who speak my own language.  It's so unfortunate about Medsea going bust and the extra cost due to the pound falling against the euro but just have to go along with things or else lose the 40% already paid.  I'm hoping property prices will recover over the next few years and then can resell as with everything that's happened don't feel the same about the place anymore.  I'm also thinking of not paying over the money until I've returned to the UK as I want to check my apartment before parting with the cash and even then I'm thinking of keeping a retainer as from other posts on this forum it looks as if the whole scheme won't be finished until the end of the year.  There was a horror programme on last week about people's disasters in purchasing in Spain and one man was left to finish off his house himself when the developers pulled out.   The only good thing is the solicitor hasn't pressed for a specific settlement date.  Maybe they and the developers are giving us some leeway after all that has happened.  Will keep you updated as things progress.

Hi Caza,

I know that it was the owner of Medsea who pulled the plug but we did not get the service from the staff that we were promised. The correspondence from them was next to nill. I lost count of calls and e-mails that were never replied. Due to the problems with our apt it is costing me more and more every time that I go to Sucina.  The prices of some properties in Spain have devalued soo much that I am considering whether it is viable for us to lose the 60% of our deposit and buy somewhere else.

Hi all,

Im so sorry to hear the horror that you are going through. I have also purchased a property in this development but did so from spaindirect4u. It was all very stress free and I have a really good lawyer who speaks about five different languages. I am due to complete next Tuesday so if everything goes as smoothly as I expect, then PM me and Ill pass on details of my lawyer if anyone wants them.

I will be over in Sucina for 2weeks so if theres anything I can help anyone with also PM me. After all were going to be neighbours!!

I have just returned from Spain and am a lot happier now that I have seen the building.  It is really good quality and have been advised that the whole scheme will be finished well ahead of the December completion date. I used the services of LIndsay Shaw formerly from after sales with Medsea.  She took me to Murcia to obtain my NIE number and went back to collect the paperwork the following day as well as taking me to inspect my apartment, open bank account, visit solicitor twice to organise power of attorney regarding completion.  I was so suspicious before I went out there I wouldn't send the money until I was satisfied everything was in order.  Lindsay was really helpful and I wouldn't have had a clue about obtaining the NIE without her help.  The pool is lovely, they were still working on handrails for steps up to the pool when I was there. The one depressing thing I saw in an estate agent's window in Los Alcazeres was the apartments being advertised at from 108,000 euros (think that was without parking space though).  All in all though I'm a lot happier now and sleeping better!
