Good local shops/markets

Hi all

Can anyone recommend shops or markets locally for buying good quality produce? On every visit so far we have just used the Mercadona, and we would really like to start using markets, fishmongers, butchers etc but have not really seen any. Has anyone got any suggestions?

We use the market in Fuengirola which is just across the road from the railway station and less than 100 yards from the bus station. There's a car park beneath it and a lift up to the food area. There are numerous veg, fish and meat stalls plus a Scots butcher and a fantastic spice stall.

A new ALDI has opened just beyond the Buddhist temple ,which has bread and fresh veg, but we usually go to Carrefour, either the big one on the road between Arroyo and Torremolinos or the Carrefour Express ,which can be found by heading down to Arroyo and turning left at the "Bronze Ball" roundabout.  It has to be said that I'm not a great fan of Mercadona!

Thanks for that info - could you let me know what day(s) of the week the market is open? We will be out at the weekend for 1 week, looking forward to finding some good food. 

Incidentally, I know there are a lot of people unhappy with the delays - we are lucky as we are in phase 2, which was not delayed much, but I have to say it really is worth it once you get the keys! Hang on in there!!

As far as I know the Fuengirola market is open till around 2pm every day except Sunday. Not every veg stall sells the same varieties of fruit and veg so you really need to have a good hunt round all of them to see what's on offer. We bought some nabos recently which appear to be a cross between a white turnip and a large radish and are very good in stews and casseroles.
