Does anyone know if the fences are staying around the pools, because they looked better without them!

I assumed they must need them for safety reasons, but if you look at photos of some of the other resorts (La Torre for example) their pools do not have fences round.  I have recently looked at some pictures from Hacienda Riquelme and they don't appear to have fencing round the pools either.

The garden areas certainly look better without the fences - it would be interesting to know why we have to have them but the other resorts don't.  Surely there is just as much risk of children falling into the pool at La Torre as there is at Condado!

Staying in La Torre at the moment and all community pools have fences round -  the only ones that don't are the private villas, which are not going to be rented out.

A couple of years ago, a child died in a swimming pool accident at Mar Menor, so although they may not look good, it's probably for the best

Hopefully they will put flowers round the fences eventually, like they have here, then they don't look so bad.

Hi Michealhardy,
What difference does it make how will it stop a child falling in the pool,  if it happens a fence is not going to stop it from happenning.

It may have been rubbish - but the guy who showed me round for snagging, said that Jack N's grand daughter had fallen in a pool some years back and nearly drowned - and he had insisted on the fences!!  - will have to ask him when he comes round trying to drag me off my balcony for a round of golf!!!

It just gives people more time if little kids run out towards the pool.

This would only work if people close the gate, unlike the one we have at La Torre.

The rules are the same in America, all rental pools need to have fences round them.

Some resorts have a key pad set too high for a small child to reach and others have a standard key lock and much higher fences and gates so they cant be climbed over easily. It is to do with insurances as Polaris can show they have taken steps to make the area safe and it would be the adults with the child who are responsible if they  have an accident. Thats why children are generally restricted from using a pool under a certain age without some one 16 supervising them.

I agree that cosmetically the pools and gardens look better with out the fences, but we may have got off lightly with low fencing

I think you are right Carol, Polaris have been alerted to the danger and put up fences around the whole resort! Isnt there an old film with Burt Lancaster in where he swims across one USA state or another using all the private pools he can find- they may have been worried that Shampers planned to recreate this in his nightly ramblings from the waterhole.

I will support the El Presidente if he/she wants to ban them then.

Must admit i think the fence around the pool looks very nice........... but then again i am an odd one after all

The pool is open to all...........................

..................... those who don't have a fridge installed so that they can chill their Shampagne, Cava & San Miguel.

However, no swimming allowed as the fun police have banned it under Rule 97, Sub section 9, Clause 26 of the 5th draft of the Community by-laws where it is quite clearly states that the pool is for aesthetic use only.

Well according to some It wont apply to me as I am in the cheap and cheerful jardin 13 back block with no pool that no one else wanted to buy - so maybe I can have the Christmas party in my Jardin afterall as I will have plenty of Terrace space for the overspill should mine be too small.....see the advantages - party games woot woot - Terrace wall hurdling, Terrace hopping, musical terraces, hide n seek, the list is endless
