A family moves from the UK to Galicia

It's all about the family. And the sea, and the wine, and the food.... A family moving to start a new chapter, and a Spanish family reunited after many years apart. We are planning towards a move to Galica, to live with my wife's parents and aunts/uncles and to give ourselves a new life away from exorbitant UK property prices and council tax.... This blog is about our research and planning, and then about the move, and then about our new life as ex-pats/new residents.

Why am I here?  Why Spain?

In a year's time, we plan to leave the UK and move to Spain.  sort of.  you'll see what I mean by that.

This blog will be a story, starting with our planning and research; progressing through into the move out>move in>settle down; and then hopefully a chronicle of the first year or more of our life once there.

My wife is Spanish, although has lived her life in the UK as her parents (and many from the region) came to the UK in the 50s and 60s.  They have all been back in Galica since the 80s and 90s and for the 10 years that my wife and I have been together, we've ached to be able to move in with them to be with them and care for them.  Circumstances have meant that we haven't been able to  : but 2016 marks the point when we potentially can and so we are going for it.

I'll work through the details, but initially we may run it so that I continue to work in the UK and travel back-and-forth regularly : that's part of the planning......

I hope to find some loyal readers and some great new contacts - in Galica, across Spain or anywhere in the world!

Interested in your experiences. Apart from the obvious family ties - what appeals to you most about a move to Galica?

Hi guys. Thanks @ColmP. and @Stephderm great to have two readers - I wasn't sure if anyone would see it yet! @Stephderm, I've been 1) driving through the northern coast inc brief overnight or swimming stops and ferry ports and 2) been to Madrid for work and 3) a 'different' week as a holiday in Alicante.

So I've seen a bit of other areas, but spending each summer in Galicia for circa 10 years I guess has just settled me into the vibe and the local pieces. Like the specific food (IE no paella, no prawns more focused on pulpo. sardines, cockles, ribs, The fiestas and local quirks like dodgy bagpipes, the north atlantic coast line and sea (brrrr!!).
Familiarity makes me love it, but Its really 98% about being with the family.

If I could go anywhere, I'd probaly go live in the Picas Europa as I love mountains!! :)

Feel free to share your experience of galicia or other regions.
