Now Mi Lords want iPadzzzz (But will £380k gadgets stop 'em kipping?)
SHAMELESS peers are demanding taxpayers buy them swanky iPads — which could cost up to £380,000. Lords and ladies — who are often spotted snoozing on the benches — want to follow in the footsteps of MPs who now get the Apple gadgets for free.
Freedom of Information requests revealed the issue was repeatedly raised in responses to a recent House of Lords survey. One peer complained his taxpayer-funded BlackBerry was “awkward”, adding: “Time to go iPad?”
Another wrote: “If we had iPads we could take those into the chamber and would not need endless paper copies.”
Further remarks included: “Would prefer an iPad to the Dell stuff.” One peer even called for the tablets to be given to unpaid helpers, saying: “If we can’t have staff paid for by the House we need excellent IT support for ourselves AND volunteers including iPhone, iPad, notebook(s) and PC.”
More than 70 MPs have claimed for iPads on expenses. But supplying all 760 peers with the devices — worth around £500 each — would cost an estimated £380,000.
vicious.sid: A few years ago, this would have just been joked about but it's not funny any more. These leeches really don't have any shame whatsoever! Everything in their lives must be paid for by someone else, and the vast majority of those other people earn a hell of a lot less and work a hell of a lot more than these useless spongers (where have I heard that term before?!). saints123: The views below are ridiculous. Tablets save money for politicians who have to have huge quantities of paper printed out every day. The chances are too they will be bulk bought and will be cheaper than the RRP. Get a grip people. There will be a clear business case for this that I'd be amazed won't save the tax payer money.
vicious.sid: saints123: They've already sponged free laptops from the taxpayers who pay their extortionate wages, why would they need an iPad aswell? You can do everything on the laptop if you wanted to save paper. They just want iPads for nothing.

Police hunt 'highly dangerous' criminal on the run from open prison
POLICE are hunting a “dangerous and predatory" criminal they suspect to have committed a serious sex offence while on the run from prison. Ivan Leach, also known as Lee Cyrus, went missing from North Sea Camp open prison in Boston, Lincs, after he failed to return from day release on October 9.
The 47-year-old is believed to have carried out a very serious sexual attack in Tayside, Scotland, while on the run although police say they cannot release further details for legal reasons.
The public have been warned not to approach Leach under any circumstances as he poses a significant risk, and police have called for him to give himself up.
Despite a large-scale search involving more than 30 cops and numerous reported sightings he remains at large.
Police are urging the public to be vigilant and to come forward with information about his possible whereabouts.
Preston-born Leach has visited his home city on a number of occasions since he absconded but he could be anywhere in the country. Inquiries are also ongoing in Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Tayside.
Lancashire Police are also investigating reports that two schoolgirls were approached for sex as they sat at a bus stop around 6.30pm on Lancaster Road in Preston city centre on Wednesday October 17.
The girls were spoken to by a man who matched Leach’s description and made sexual remarks towards them as he encouraged them to participate in sexual activities with him. The girls boarded their bus and reported the incident to the police.
Leach was jailed in 2005 for robbing a 90-year-old woman in Ribbleton. He was given a life sentence with a minimum tariff of five years. He also has convictions for burglary, robbery and assault.
Detective Chief Inspector Ian Dawson, of Preston Police, said: “Leach is an extremely dangerous and predatory individual who poses a serious threat to members of the public.

What are these people who are paid to make the decisions whether someone is safe or not doing? Sack the handwringers and get in people who know what they are doing.

I've proved my bulging biceps are the real deal, says Popeye man
A REAL-LIFE Popeye with the world’s biggest biceps has undergone medical tests to quash rumours that his massive arms are the result of surgical implants. Moustafa Ismail, 24, shot to fame last month when he claimed a place in the 2013 Guinness Books of World Records for his 31 inch biceps.
But his success prompted a whispering campaign in the bodybuilding world and speculation grew that his incredible bulk was surgically-enhanced.
So Moustafa - known as ’Big Mo’ - agreed to undergo a series of medical tests in Japan, including a full-body MRI scan and an ultrasound scan on his upper arms.
Experts found no signs of implants, drug use or intravenous tampering – clearing Mo of any wrongdoing.
He said: “I have nothing to hide and so I agreed to do it. I am nothing but proud of what I have achieved as an unknown and amateur bodybuilder."
Moustafa eats as much as three pounds of chicken, and a pound of steak or fish a day, as well large portions of carbohydrates.

Reid is a fame addict
CROSS-DRESSING cagefighter Alex Reid has admitted he is “addicted” to fame.
The former glamour model was asked by Hollywood actor Robert Englund what she would scold Alex for.
She raged: “He is fame-hungry. I think he gets into high-profile relationships and sells every part of it... he is self-indulgent.”
Alex – who opens up about his alter-ego Roxanne – said: “She said I am fame-obsessed and I acknowledge it as I have been. And it has become like an addiction.”

Why work? I get £30k benefits
A JOBLESS dad whose family gets nearly £30,000 in benefits has boasted: “Why should I work?” Scrounging Paul Tolley, 54, and wife Amanda, 28, rake in £29,472 a year in handouts — over £3,000 more than the average UK wage.
Father-of-six Paul is FIT to work yet sees nothing wrong in letting the state pay for them to “live comfortably” in a four-bedroom bungalow in a seaside town.
Millions of hard-working families struggling to make ends meet will be outraged by their set-up — and see it as yet another of example of the broken benefits system.
The couple have four children aged three to seven and claim £2,456 a month in job support, rent and council tax, child benefit and tax credits in Southend, Essex.
Paul has not worked since suffering a back injury in 1996 but still managed to pay for the couple’s boozy wedding out of benefits.
He is £29,000 in DEBT yet stopped repaying a loan to spend £100 on each of his kids’ Christmas presents.
And he was ordered to REPAY £7,000 in disability allowance after council spies caught him laying a new lawn and lifting heavy bin bags.
But Paul, who has two older children from a previous relationship, bragged: “Why should I work when we can live on benefits? I don’t care if I go bankrupt.
"Some people were born with a silver spoon in their mouths, they wouldn’t understand how hard it is for us.”
Denying abusing the system, he added: “Because we are two parents we get more money. So what?
“This Government isn’t doing enough to get cheats off benefits — and I don’t think I am one of them.”

They are not breaking any laws (although he has cheated the taxpayer in the past) but they obviously have no morals. Have you noticed that this type of sponging family have loads of kids? As soon as the youngest is old enough to go to playschool and the mum can work, pop, out comes another one and, surprise, surprise,she can't work! Now, you imagine this story a million times over. I have three kids and I have never been on benefits (I tried once and they told me no because I missed a few months of paying National Insurance out of 30 years!) and I agree with the idea that there should be no more child benefit after the second child. You choose to have that many, YOU pay for them! Benefits were originally designed to help people in genuine need, who can't feed themselves, but these spongers have all the latest flatscreen tellies, computers and foreign holidays so something is wrong somewhere. If any of this stuff is in anyone's house who is on benefits then they're getting too much and it should be reduced drastically. But nothing will ever change until the country goes bankrupt. Sigh . . .

Abu Hamza facing hell in a cell
HATE cleric Abu Hamza will live in “hell” at America’s toughest prison, an ex warder has revealed. Security expert Robert Hood says the Islamic fanatic would find Colorado’s “Supermax” jail a brutal contrast to cushy UK prisons, if he is convicted of terror charges in the US.
And Hamza — who lost both arms and an eye in a blast — will not be able to use his disabilities to dodge the modern-day version of the infamous Alcatraz jail, where inmates are locked up 23 hours a day.
Mr Hood, 61, said: “The US prison system is made up of boxes within boxes.
“This is the final box. There’s nowhere left to go. It’s a clean version of hell.”
Hook-handed Hamza, 54, was booted out of Britain this month after eight years fighting extradition.

Anti-terror police search after weapons stolen from train
ANTI-TERROR cops have launched an investigation after a batch of anti-tank mines were stolen from a train. Ten packages of munitions used by British troops in Afghanistan were believed to have been stolen while the train stopped in Warrington, Cheshire.
The North West Counter Terrorism Unit say it does not believe at this stage the theft was terror-related.
The Ministry of Defence-owned munitions do not pose a risk to the public unless they are tampered with, added the Unit.
Three of the packages, each with four separate plastic cases inside, remain outstanding after the other seven were found discarded near a railway line in the Folley Lane area of Warrrington.
The train left Longtown, Cumbria, at 11.30am on Wednesday and arrived at Didcot, Oxfordshire, where they were reported missing the next morning.
Officers are now appealing to anyone who may have seen the outstanding items to contact police.
They are described as being rectangular plastic tubes, approximately 4ft in length.
A co-ordinated investigation led by the NWCTU also includes the Metropolitan Police Service, British Transport Police and the MoD.

After hundreds of accusations that claim Jimmy Savile molested hundreds of youngsters, the disgraced DJ has been caught on live TV groping a petrified teenager.
Sylvia Edwards can be seen sitting next to the blonde presenter on Top Of The Pops as he announces the next song to viewers, surrounded by a group of teenage girls, after the recording appeared on You Tube.
But then a horrified Sylvia leaps off of her chair, shrieks and tried to move away from smirking Savile, who calmly talks into the camera.

The 55-year-old recalls how her assault was dismissed, even though it was patently obvious she was being groped.
The mother-of-two, who was 19 at the time, recalled how the male employee was furious at her for complaining about the alleged pervert's wandering hands, The Sun reported.
She claims she was branded as stupid and says that as a shy teenager she did not have the courage to pursue her complaint.
Savile was 50 at the time of the recording on November 25, 1976 in the BBC's West London TV Centre.
