Priest from Spain in Church paedophile case – largest-ever in USA history

A SPANISH priest is among a list of 122 members of the clergy in the USA accused of abusing children in the 1980s, according to documents held by the archdiocese of Los Ángeles. A letter dated 1993 written to the Archbishop from a man who wishes to remain anonymous claims José I. Ugarte sexually abused him 10 years previously, when he was aged 17. According to the documents, the Archbishop back in 1983, Roger Mahony, and Ugarte came to an agreement that the latter would go back to his own country, Spain, to live.
