Tuesday, November 8, 2011 @ 8:22 PM

Directors from the low cost airline Jet2.com have confirmed, after visiting the new installations on Monday, that the airline will transfer over to Murcia’s new international airport at Corvera next year and will commence flight operations there from November 2012.

we have used san javier airport for years, the proposed change will add a further 40 minutes onto our journey to our home in spain, jet 2 was our preferred airline, looks like ryanair will be getting our business from now on!
this will affect thousands of travellers to the costa Blanca region, who will now look at alicante as being there preferred airport.

I've used Jet2 for a few years now in preference to ryanair and this move cuts my journey by nearly half an hour. Bonus.!

likewise agree with all your comments.......except the use of ryanair!!
will revert to alicante in all probability to avoid using them.

Our journey from San Javier was around 15 minutes, now it will be nearer 35 minutes. Who cares? I would rather drive for 10 hours than get onto one of those Ryanair sardine cans again!
Well done Jet2.

As a resident of Turre(Near Mojacar), we only have the use of Almeria from Manchester in the Summer months and to suit our regular travel arrangements, Alicante or Murcia(San Javier) are our winter options. We would certainly welcome the opening of the new airport as it will be a shorter distance to travel and subject to suitable flight times from Manchester, could be our Summer option as well

It certainly makes a difference to everyone with property on the Costa Calida around the Mazarron area. I've never had a problem with Ryanair and I've been using them for years. You can't expect to pay a small amount and get first class service with champagne and canapes.

Great news !
Everthing depends on from which airports Jet2 will depart !!

whatever anyone says about Ryanair you cannot beat the price. We're between San Javier & Corvera so it's no difference to us. The only problem is that our local UK airport is Bournemouth so we're stuck with Ryanair. 4 hours door to door and I don't care about being squashed as long as I get a seat!

traverling 5 or 6 times a year.having property at Villamartain
this will add 30/40 mins to our travel time.San Javier is a good
airport if only small and i am disapointed at jet 2

Our place is near los Alcazares, and have used mainly Ryanair for last 6 years, always on time, and no problems; unlike Jet2, I might add.
The move to Corvera will mean we shall have to always hire a car, even for a short stay, adding to the expense, plus the con. trick of having to buy a full tank of petrol every time at 70 to 80 euros. Hope Ryanair stays in San Javier.

I hope Ryanair do move to Corvera. It would be a much shorter trip to our place in Spain. You get what you pay for with Ryanair. They are 99% on time and transport you from A to B with no frills at a very reasonable price. We have no complaints.

It seems that it is fashionable to knock Ryanair.
I use them on a regular basis and find them generally very reliable. Even with the 'extras' I find that their prices are often cheaper than other Airlines.
If you don't like them, don't use them! Better that than whinging!

I think some of you have missed the point - San Javier airport is shutting down as a commercial airport and reverting to military use next year, that is why Jet2 are moving - so unless Ryanair and the others are going to change their aircraft to 2 seaters with missiles and cannons none of you will be going to San Javier.

Fran W - Even if Ryanair could land in my back garden I would not use them. Suppose the pilot's window fell out (I hope that you have read recent press) and damaged my plants!!!!!
Seriously though we have been waiting over 7 years, since it was first muted, for Corvera to open. Cuts our car journey almost in half. Hurrah.

If San Javier airport is reverting to military use only next year, it seems strange that so much money has been put into expanding the facilities at San Javier airport both inside and out and that those improvements are ongoing.

I read in the local paper San Javier is going to close so
It's Corvera or Alicante only.

Great news been waiting for the new airport to open for ages. we are in the middle of Alicante and Javier at Frondoso Valley near Murcia 20 mins to our house instead of 1 hour. Dont moan about airlines if they did not go there neither would you!!!!! LOL

good thing to, it don't matter which airline people use its a means to an end. cuts my journey by 40 mins each way.
the private company who run Sanjavir airport are claiming compensation from the military for all the work already done.

At Murcia airport last month. Agree with comment why are they still doing work at airport if its shutting down. Love San Javier & Ryanair. You get what you pay for!

Well its Corvera or nothing next year as San Javier is definitely closing down to commercial airlines. Which airline one uses is a matter of choice. If you are prepared to pay more you will get better facilities, but if you are only interested in the cheapest price and look at the bottom line that you pay, its Ryanair every time.

If Corvera opens it will mean another 20minutes at least journey to our home, the same as El Atet. We do not like Ryan Air so prefer to use Easyjet. San Javier Airport has served us well over the last 9 years, it is such a shame that it is closing down.

You guys should be so lucky...I live in Almeria...we have no flights from Manchester...I would rather travel an extra 30mins in Spain than travel down to Birmingham on the M6...so Corvera ..Murcia ..or Alicante is good...whats an extra 30mins anyway...
