Cigarette and alcohol tax goes up

TAXES go up on cigarettes and alcohol today (Friday) as part of the government's ongoing fiscal reform which will be completed by March next year.

Minister for finance Cristóbal Montoro says these tax rises were already anticipated at the end of April and that there would be 'no surprises'.

He added that the tax increases would be on consumer goods which had an 'outward negative effect on society' and, although he did not specifically mention drink and tobacco products, when questioned pointedly on these, admitted that the rises would be 'in that area'.

Well in that case I think we the people should tax the government because they're biggest 'outward negative effect on society' going.

If there was less corruption by so called politicians and Town Hall employees .Plus a reliable and trustworthy law enforcement dept. Spain may not be in the position it finds itself in. Also Estate agents and the legal profession should be regulated and be more accountable.

Sometimes tax rises actually mean less tax revenue. Spain should be very careful about pricing alcohol so high that tourists go somewhere else.
