Atletico Madrid 1-1 Valencia

The only two goals of the game came within the first six minutes. It was Valencia’s Jonas who opened the score line in the 5th minute, it didn’t take long for Atlético to respond as Falcao equalised the game just a minute later from a pass from Arda Turán, who would later have to be taken off due to injury.

The game promised to be a festival of goals, but those would be the only two goals of the game. The Ches dominated the first half of the match, however they didn’t take advantage of this, they could have very well taken the three points with them.

Talking after the game, Valencia manager Ernesto Valverde said “The first half was ours, we didn’t take advantage of the way we played, we needed that final push in the rival’s box”.

In the second half the rojiblancos did more to try and win the game, as they were the ones taking control. Atlético de Madrid called for a penalty, after a chance by Falcao hit Jonas’ arm, the referee didn’t see it. If Atlético didn’t take the win, it was because Valencia defended very well, a special mention to Ricardo Costa as he did his job very well defending.

Valencia are currently 6th in the League, in three weeks they will play Málaga at home who are currently sitting above them with just one more point (47) and a week after that they will face Real Sociaedad who are executing a better than expected campaign, they are currently in 4th position with 48 points.

Atlético de Madrid are in third place, just one point behind Real Madrid. These two will meet in four weeks’ time at the Vicente Calderón, a win for Cholo Simeone’s men would take them two points in front of Real Madrid, with hopes of a second spot finish, which would be a good reward for the season they are having.
