Was going to Spain from start to finish but now I, Luca have taken over

Was about researching about where to look & about living in Spain I am here. So was for anyone interested here are the good & bad things that happened to me. But now I (Luca) will tell you about my experiences, both very bad, better and good.

The phony move
Sunday, February 3, 2013 @ 7:15 PM

It has been a little under 3 weeks since we found our house in Sedella Spain & I feel a little like the British & Her Commnowealth felt after declaring war in the summer of 1939. Nothing then tended to happen in the United Kingdom for nearly a year (although it was all happening on the continent!) leading people to descibe it as the "phony war". This is exactly how I feel  about this time with me & it is frustrating to say the least. I just wanna get into my car and drive to Spain & start my much dreamed of life of the future without all this hassle, but its not as easy as that!

Yea, I have started a few basic things, but because there is plenty of time, have not yet started the main things like packing & sorting things to take, to dump & to give away. That is a part I definately do not relish & perhaps to this I am prevaricating but I know I must get on with it in the next week or two. I'm aware I have to finalise such a lot like utilities various taxes etc but they are easy, especially today with the internet, electronic mails etc. To anyone I promised a notice of two months that is done.

I did start to write down a list of what I must do, but when it got longer & longer I started to be concerned. The longer it got the more depressed I felt, strange that because I thought it would give me a lift and help to gap this "phony  move" but it didn't it was just the opposite. I threw the list away, can do without that sort of hindrance.

So now I'll take things one at a time, my wifes schengen visa is next then. But because we are driving through France we will have to apply to the French embassy & they have tightened everything immensely in the last year, so now it's battle with them.

Yes, Gerald, that limbo stage is always a bit weird. I've always felt the same when I've left a job and had to work the last month. It goes painfully slowly. But presumably, apart from things like visas, most things don't matter that much, whether they're done or not. You'll probably just have a very busy last week. One suggestion: what about making sure that you do one little thing every day towards your goal, as Kathy D suggested in a post a month or so ago?

thanks Eggie,
I suppose as you say it will be the last week's push as rather than doing things daily I tend to do them in bunches like a bunch of bananas.
Which is a thought do bananas grow in Spain?

Absolutely, Gerald, one thing every day. It's easier. I always start by packing up stuff in the front room that we don't need...whilst watching the telly so that I don't get bored! When the front room's done, I move into the bedrooms, one at a time, whilst listening to the radio (afternoon theatre on Radio 4 passes the time nicely). You can always do your packing in 'bunches' of boxes.

BTW, bananas do grow in Spain, particularly on the Canary Islands where it's warm all year round. They grow a particularly small, sweet variety onTenerife which are sold in our supermarkets as being perfect for kids' lunchboxes.

I can sympathise with you! We're waiting for Friday to come! Then we'll be waiting for another rung of the ladder to be completed, then we'll be in a situation like yours! You must start to do little bits of packing etc... otherwise you'll be in a mad panic! :)

Thank you Maddie, luckily most of the big stuff is either going elsewhere or gone already. Just stuff I hope I can fit in my car or leave temporarily in the loft of the Salon. There is nothing of a very large nature but I think the charity shop may also be happy but can't start packing the car until a couple of days or so before we leave.

Louise I hope Friday goes well & you get onto that next rung. My people have already moved into their new house & are waiting for internet to be fitted, so I could go tomorrow but need to tie up all the lose ends here. So I take it we may leave these shores at a similar time? I'll be writing again on my blog soon to bring things up to date.
