Pumpkin and her six puppies need homes
Wednesday, April 30, 2014

Tina, President of Galgos del Sol, has been back from Boston a couple of days now.

You should read about Pumpkin & her puppies here first. There are many photos on that blog post.

Pumpkin gave birth on the streets in Cartegena in a risky area where her pure breed galgo pups could well have been taken from her and taken into the world of hunting and galgueros.

Locals and GDS worked together to catch her and bring her to safety. She had apparently been on the streets for many years and has given birth this way many times but none of the pups were ever known to have survived.

We wonder why she was left so long on the streets, why didn't someone call us earlier? The answer is rescues are just always so full here and people feel they have few places to turn to get help. GDS always pushes the limits with capacity and in fact took Pumpkin and her six babies and kept them safe in the bathroom until space came up. We did this because we also knew YOU would not let us down and would help us fund this sweet family.

Pumpkin got tired, she's exhausted from surviving alone for so long and sadly couldn't feed the babies anymore so we have taken over the job as heartbreaking as it's been to separate them, believe me it's tough on the soul but Pumpkin needed medication and it was important she couldn't get to the pups to feed them or they would be in danger.

To give them the best start they are on Royal Canin milk and starter food but it doesn't come cheap so once again we put out an appeal for sponsorships to help us feed them.

Please visit http://www.galgosdelsol.org and click 'sponsor a hound' and put in the name of the puppy you would like to feed; Indie, Ink, Sweetpea, Bruno, Zoro and Tiny Tim are all the babies you can choose to help.

These little ankle biters, born 30th March, are costing a fortune with the puppy milk and starter food.

 Thank you in advance!

They all need homes. They are beautiful puppies.

We can start taking enquiries for Pumpkin - she is approx 8 yrs old now - but she won't be ready to travel for a few months yet....she has Erlichia which is now being treated. She is a cheeky wonderful girl that will fit into any gentle pack or home. She deserves a marvellous life, who can offer her that?

THERES SO MUCH HAPPENING AT GDS AS ALWAYS, TAKE A LOOK
Wednesday, April 16, 2014

There's so much going on daily at Galgos del Sol, it's hard for us members of their page on Facebook to keep up.

Why don't you join us? This young woman, Tina Solera (president of GdS) aided by Kyle & her volunteers do the most incredible work.

Two new babies arrived from Badajoz last night.

Badajoz is a killing station, where the dogs are taken when they are of no use to the galgueros (hunters) anymore. Big thanks to Alibar dog knits for raising funds for their vets bills.

Below: New girl Ana with the broken leg has had x-rays and typical it's a complicated break right on the joint. So here we go, her operation is approx 800 euros. She will be operated today (16th). Please consider donating.

Below: Dalgo (Guapo) is so happy to be here but he really needs a forever home soon. He is fun loving but sometimes a bully with the weaker ones but once in an established pack is fine. Who can resist that long wet sloppy tongue?????

Below: Nerea, beautiful lady.

Another two adults and six newborn pups arrive at Galgos del Sol
Wednesday, April 2, 2014

Tina & Kyle are already caring for around 100 Galgos but another two adults and six newborn pups arrived at Galgos del Sol yesterday after quite a traumatic couple of days.

The expectant mum was seen but wouldn't be caught. Then she was seen giving birth & eventually she plus six of her newborn pups .. another two had died .. were caught & taken to GdS.

Tina says "Mum is now settled with GdS. Shes an older lady, bless her, with few teeth. Her name is now Pumpkin, named after a very special greyhound who passed over the bridge recently. She was from

New Hampshire USA and her mummy Sharron is heartbroken. When Sharron's heartbroken GdS are heartbroken so Pumpkin is here to tell her that we love her and we will do everything we can to save these little galgo puppies"

The dad of the newborn babies has also been caught.... the family together plus an army of ticks. Local gypsies have confirmed the mum has given birth many times in the streets and every time all the babies have died. Let's hope this time is different.....the pups are pure galgo!

If anyone is able to donate to help care for these please do. Thanks in anticipation. There is a 'donate' button on their website http://galgosdelsol.org

Follow Galgos del Sol on Facebook, there's SO MUCH MORE ON THERE THAN MY BLOGS CAN TELL YOU!

There's a video of Pumpkin & her puppies just been added there.

Below: The story in pictures!
