Lecture on New Foreign Laws

Dear friends,

The Manilva Foreign Residents Department are organizing on the 21st February 2013, at 17:00 in Villa Matilde, Sabinillas (opposite Supersol, heading to Manilva village) a lecture about the new law for Foreign Residents, NIE and padron and other issues currently of interest for the foreign community.

We have all been in the situation of asking what, how and where I go in order to sort out the paperwork. This lecture will hopefully give you the answers you need and also it will introduce the Department of Foreign Residents as the friendly team willing to attend your questions and help in the daily matters.

The event is sponsored by La Caixa Bank and after will also enjoy some tapas and drinks.

International Family Day

Tomorrow, Saturday, 7th of May, in the Duquesa Castle come and join us in the celebration of the International Family Day. In Manilva are more than 70 nationalities living and tomorrow will celebrate their culture, food and traditions!

Kids play a very important role as they will be the key participants: we will have bouncing castle, games, a small train and face paiting .

The party starts at 10.30 in the morning and finishes around 10 pm.

HOW TO VOTE BY POST IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO BE OUT OF MANILVA ON THE 22^nd MAY

The Spanish voting process gives you the opportunity to vote even if you are not in Manilva the 22^nd of May.

HOW TO PROCEED

You will have to ask personally in any post office for the form (Manilva, Sabinillas). An identity card is compulsory to show when requesting to vote by mail. The period is from the 29^th March to the 12^th May.

·Complete the form with the address where you would like to receive the documentation. It has to be an address in Spain, it cannot be sent abroad.

·Sign it and give it back to the post officer that will confirm your identity (your passport, residence or any ID card with a photograph will do). The post officer will stamp the form and will sent it by registered mail (free of charge) to the Oficina del Censo (Census Office)

·- The Oficina del Censo will send to the address indicated in the above mentioned form the documentation to vote. This process will start from the 25^th of April.

·The postman will handle to you PERSONALLY the documentation and will ask you to confirm your identity (ID card, passport, residence)

·If you are absent, he will leave a note asking you to collect the documentation at the post office. Again this is something that you will have to do personally.

VOTING DOCUMENTATION

You will receive an envelope containing:

a. A certificate of being registered in Manilva electoral census.

b. A white A5 form for each of the political parties with the logo of the party, listing the names of the representatives leaded by the candidate to mayor, and a small white envelop marked “Elecciones Municipales”).

c. Another envelope (bigger) addressed to your voting district (Mesa Electoral)

Process as follows:

·Choose the form of the political party you would like to vote for and insert it into the small white envelope, and close it. (DO NOT MARK THE PAPER IN ANY WAY ( NO X )

·Put this small envelope into the big envelope together with the certificate of being registered in the electoral census (Certificado). If you fail to insert this certificate your vote will not be valid.

·- Close the big envelope marked with the address of your electoral district (mesa Electoral).

·Take it to any post office before the 17^th of May to be sent by registered mail. This process is free of charge.

The Duquesa Society of St. George

The Duquesa Society of St. George held it’s annual St. George’s dinner dance on Thursday 21st April. The Society, which was formed in 2005, organises at least two events each year, the actual St. George’s celebration dinner dance which has been held for the last few years at Macues Restaurant in Duquesa Port, and a summer ball and BBQ which is held at the H10 Hotel in Estepona.

Over the years, the organisers have managed to raise money from these events for charites such as Help the Heroes, Los Claveles Cancer charity, and has raised money to go towards the building of a school in Nepal for the orphans of Ghurka soldiers.

For it’s main organisers, William Downes, commonly known by those that frequent Duquesa Port as “Billy the Fish”, it was his last St. George’s dinner as Billy is leaving Spain to return to the UK to run a Country Inn called the Rose & Crown in Wiltshire. Billy moved to Spain approximately 10 years ago and opened “Billy’s Fish & Chips” in Duquesa Port. The current Mayor of Manilva, Antonia Munoz, was also in attendance at Thursday’s dinner dance as everyone showed their appreciation for all the hard work that Billy has put into the organising of the annual events and to wish Billy and his wife, Sandra, a safe journey back to England. Billy has handed over the future organisation of the events to another well known supporter, Dean Shelton.

Art Festival Canceled

The Art Festival at the Duquesa Castle on the 22nd, 23rd and 24th of April has been cancelled due to rain.

We apologize to all the people involved and we are happy to announce that we have another date already established: the 7th of May. You are invited to a double event organized by the Foreign Residents Department: the International Family Fun Day, where you will be able to enjoy the music, food and drinks from several countries and the Art Exhibition inside the Castle.

Duquesa Port

…I was talking to someone the other day and apparently people don´t know why we have water fountains in the Duquesa port and think they are a waste of money. Did you know that they were done because the septic tank that has caused problems in Duquesa for 30 years is gone. Did you know that from the Town Hall they worked to solve a problem that was driving the local owners crazy every time the sewage blocked and their basements filled with crap and the smell was horrible. The fountain is just a small gesture of beauty after fixing a problem long time due. So….if you are not very happy with the design, that is a personal opinion, but the fountain was placed there as a reminder of the fact that the horrible septic tank is out and in it´s place we have a nice fountain to help make the Port nicer.

Art Festival In the Castle

The Foreigners Department in the Duquesa Castle are organizing the 3rd Art Festival for the Manilva residents.

The exhibition will take place on the 22^nd,23^rd and 24^th of April at the Duquesa Castle.

The places are free, so if you have any art work, paintings, etc. and you want to exhibit, please contact the Castle on 952 893 548.

Foreign Residents Weekend

On the 9th of April and the 10th of April, the Palacio de Congresos of Estepona will celebrate the Foreign Resident´s Day with stands from all over the World. Join them starting with the 12 o´clock and finishing around 18 o´clock.

They have promised great entertainment and food from all around the World .

Diego Urieta, councilor of the Foreigners´ Department and Sports is inviting you on another tour of the Manilva Town. This initiative is designed to inform citizens of the beauties our town has to offer: the Castle, parks, sports centre, etc.

The trip is scheduled for Thursday, the 14^th of April at 10.00 at the Duquesa Castle and will have another pick up in Sabinillas (Supersol bus stop) at 10.10. Personally I have been on this trip and discovered parks and facilities offered by the Town Hall that I did not know they exist and was impressed with the development of our town over the last years.

The tour will also offer breakfast or some tapas after.

Are you on the list?

Are you a resident in Spain? Are you on the padrón? If the answer to this last question is YES, our next question is: are you registered to vote?

Registering on the padrón doesn’t mean you have the right to vote. This is done separately, by registering your option in the Tenencia de Alcaldia or the Town Hall.

The deadline for registration was the 31^st of January 2011, but for the residents wanting to express their right to vote there is now another opportunity.

Between the 4^th of April and the 11^th of April 2011 the list with the citizens registered to vote will be made available in the Tenencia de Alcaldia in Sabinillas and in the Town Hall of Manilva.

If you are not on that list, but you were registered on the padrón before December 2010, you can request the right to vote in the elections on the 22^nd of May.

Why you should register on the padrón

We remind you that as a citizen of Manilva you have to be registered under the padrón in the city where you live or work, and also inform us of any change of address you do.

So, in order to register under the padrón in Manilva or Sabinillas you have to go to the following offices:

-Tenencia de Alcaldía of Sabinillas in Pío Baroja street Nº5 local 2 (opposite the Petrol station and near the Supersol and Bus station in Sabinillas).

-Manilva. The Manilva Town Hall in Mar Street.

Documents required for registering:

1. Passport

2. NIE certificate

3. Title deed/ Rental contract on the property

The current registered population is of 14.346 individuals, distributed in Manilva, Sabinillas and El Castillo and numerous urbanizations. This number of inhabitants usually triples during holiday season.

If you are registered under the padrón you can, among other things, register your kids in school, have access to council homes, process your National Identification Document or Passport, request scholarships, vote in the elections and even get married.

But you also must know that depending on the number of individuals registered in the Town Hall, we receive from the Junta de Andalucia and the Government the economical support.

Your presence is important for everyone; depending on this are: our schools, our health centres, our streets, hospitals, Police Stations, Courts of Justice and much more.

•Right to vote in the elections
•Registration of documents for unemployment
•Registration in the Social Security system after paying your contributions
•Registration of your pension (non contribution pensions, social salary, assistance fund, etc...) and have the right to the Ley de Dependencia and economical support plus social assistance.
•Celebrating civil marriages
•Making the inherence procedures
•Registration in schools and also applying for scholarships
•Access to council estates
•National Identification Document or Passport
•Access to classes/ training offered by the Town Hall
•Have access to Self Employed grants and benefits

Are you registered to vote?

The elections are around the corner and we, as citizens of Manilva, have the right to vote.

In order to do this, you have to be registered on the padrón and to have expressed your desire to vote. This is not done automatically when registering for the padrón, it is separate.

The list with the citizens of Manilva with the right to vote will be available between the 4th of April and the 11th of April in the Town Hall in Manilva and the Tenencia de Alcaldia in Sabinillas. If you are under the padrón, but do not appear on the list, you can fill in a form and ask to have your name on the list and the right to vote.

It is our right and we should use it!

Football International Tournament

The Mayoress of Manilva and Diego Urieta are inviting you to the 7th Football International Tournament in Manilva, in Las Viñas.

Starting at 10 o´clock this morning (I believe I am a little bit late, woke up late) and finishing around 2, we can cheer up for teams from Bolivia, Bulgaria, Spain, UK, Romania, Paraguay, Brazil, Morrocco.

After the competitions the prizes will be awarded and we will have some drinks and tapas.

Saetas contest in Manilva

Saetas- national songs of Andalusian origin sung in the Semana Santa.

Antonia Munoz, Mayoress of Manilva, is inviting you this Saturday, 26th of March, starting at 8:00 o´clock in the evening, in the Iglesia de Santa Ana de Manilva for the Third Semifinal of the Concurso de Saetas of Malaga. There will be contestants from Cadiz, Huelva, Seville, Cordoba and Malaga.

It will be an interesting discovery of these Andalusian songs and an introduction into the wonderful atmosphere of the Easter Celebrations of Andalucia.

Improvements in the Duquesa Port

We all know that the Duquesa port area has gone a long way in the last years and a lot of improvements have been done. The latest are 2 new fountains that are covering the septic tanks that caused so many problems!

I do think the port is looking better and better!

Grants from the Consejería de Empleo

Good news for the self employed individuals in Manilva and Andalucia.

Until the end of March the Consejería de Empleo, managed by Diego Diaz, in the Manilva Town Hall is still accepting files from the self employed individuals in order to qualify for grants. The funds will be allocated, upon reviewing the files, to the autónomos that have been registered for a minimum of 1 year and maximum of 3 year. The grant will cover the expenses in the last 6 months up to 4000 euros.

You need to present:

- The 037 form of registration

- The certificate of having the social security paid up to date. You get it by post after calling 901 50 20 50.

- Bank certificate (form received from the Town Hall) stamped by your branch

- Invoices from the last 6 months proving the expense: rent, electricity, phones, autónomo payment, marketing, etc.

Trip to Valle del Jerte

The Sports and Foreigner´s Department, through Diego Urieta is organizing a trip to Valle del Jerte in Extremadura starting with the 24th to the 27th of March.

The price per person in a double room is 250 Euros and includes: accommodation, coach for the entire trip, stay of 3 nights in 3* Hotel in Trujillo with all inclusive, with water and wine included in the meals, starting with the lunch in the first day and finishing with the lunch in the last day.

Also, a guide will be present in the entire tour and travel insurance and excursions will be included in the program: Half a day to Cáceres. Half a day to Plasencia. Half a day to Valle del Jerte: Jerte, Cabezuela del Valle, Hervás.

Know your Town

Together with the departments of Citizen participation and Youth and Sports, we have started an initiative under the slogan “Get to know your Town” where one can learn about outstanding places of interest in our locality.

The next tour is set for the 23rd of March, departure from The Castle at around 10.00am, pick up points also in Sabinillas and Manilva, at the end of the visit you can enjoy typical tapas and wine from our region in the Castle.

March 12^th

A visit to the Zoo in El Castellar

The zoo in El Castellar is situated in the recreation area called “Cerro del Morro” on the outskirts of the town, some 600 metres from the end of the Adelfas Avenue and on the left side of the road joining Castellar to Sotogrande and Guardiaro. It is bordering on the National Cork Oak Park.

The zoo itself has lots of indigenous vegetation with various areas exhibiting a selection of animals, such as Japanese monkeys, lynxes, raccoons, ostriches and crocodiles.

Enjoy a pleasant day with the family in natural surroundings where it is also possible to play with some of the animals.

Trip to Benaojan

Situated in the heart of the Ronda mountains, in beautiful surroundings, we will visit the Pileta Caves and monuments and other places of interest in the town, as well as sampling typical dishes and products of this municipality.

In this area, two geological formations of great importance are found, namely Hundidero-Gato and the Caves de la Pileta, one of the most important sites in Spain for prehistoric cave drawings, which has been declared a National Monument and which attracts thousands of visitors every year.

Departure at 09.00, returning around 18.00, price to be confirmed.

Informative talk

In the Multi-Use building, there will be an informative talk about alcohol and drug dependency and the problems they cause.

May 7^th

International Family Fun Day

This super event will take place in the Park in “El Castillo” from 10.00, with a breakfast of fried “tortitas” with honey and hot chocolate. We will be able to take the opportunity to taste the cuisine of many countries, also there will be many different games for both children & adults, music, dancing, bouncy castle and much more entertainment.

Finally there will be a huge Paella for everyone present.
