Art & Photography Exhibition
Con Otros Ojos
An Outsider’s View of Spain
July 29 to August 14 2009,
CIC El Posito,
Loja.

Do you wonder how others see you? What do others think of your country and way of life?

Con Otros Ojos is the inspiration of an ambitious summer art and photography exhibition taking place in Loja .The event brings together eight diverse artists living and working in Andalucia all with various approaches and styles - the range includes artists working in mixed media, oils, acrylics and watercolours to surreal oils reflecting incongruous relationships/observations of everyday Spanish life.

The photographic element of the exhibition is a form of photo-journalism capturing the spirit and diversity of life in Spain today.

Some of the artists have made their home in the cities others have escaped to the campo and this and more is reflected in their work and their views of the Spain that we have all came to be part of. In this respect we believe the exhibition to be one of the most diverse and thus exciting events that has happened in this area, drawing on a mix of many veteran exhibitors with varying backgrounds in graphic design, illustration, jewellery making, theatre design, community arts and teaching of art in international schools and new artists who have never shown their work in public.

This occasion unites them by asking for a response to the simple idea of how an outsider views the country they have chosen to live and work in.

The exhibition is the first cultural event of the new Association of English Speakers in Loja. More information on the association and how to join will be available at the exhibition.

Artists’ Inspiration

A selection of the thinking and inspiration behind some of the work in this exhibition.

“España holds my heart, a country of breathtaking contrasts, colours and textures. Over many years of winter travel from the Pyrenees to the Sierra de Gredos, the Picos de Europa to the Sierra Nevada, I have been inspired by the landscape.
Using my camper van as a studio and working in a small format with mixed media, I have portrayed in these images my enjoyment of, and special feelings for, España.”
Eileen Heywood

“In this work I take a light-hearted look at the costumes and habits of the Spanish people as they seemed to me when I first arrived in Spain as a foreigner 13 years ago when my knowledge was mainly gleaned from guide books and language learning texts.

In this work I combine my passion for paper - which began with my work as a graphic designer in London and which I now express as an artist through the medium of collage - with the theme of childhood that began previously with my interpretation of the traditional story of the Handless Maiden.
I combine the technique of cutting out shapes in paper - principally using paper that is easy to obtain in any corner stationery shop in Spain - with both manual and digital collage techniques - to create a version for adults of the paper dolls of my childhood.”
Cherry Jeffs

New Eye on Spain Bargain Property Alerts service Launched
Thursday, June 4, 2009

Here at Eye on Spain we are constantly being sent details of true bargain/ distressed/ below-market-value properties that are coming onto the market...whatever people wish to call them!

These are very often new properties which either the developer, the banks or investors are trying to offload.  There are some really
good deals out there for anyone looking to buy now.

We normally take a look and then just delete these emails that we receive as we are not agents and do not sell propert ourselves.

However, we understand from much of the feedback that we receive that many of you ARE interested in having access to this sort of information of heavily discounted property in Spain.

So we have decided to give you the option to opt in to what we are calling "Eye on Spain Bargain Property Alerts".  It's a no-cost
service to you.

For those that want to receive regular updates on TRUE bargain deals of property for sale in Spain then simply join the notification list at:

After filling in the form you will have instant access to the first bargain property alert!

We will be adding to this and emailing those interested as and when we receive notification of these distressed properties.  Remember to sign up for the service at:

I hope you enjoy this new service.  If you are an agent or developer and have your own distressed properties that you would like to feature in the alerts then please register your details here:

(Agents only:  Agent registration)
