Estoy de acuerdo con Joe. En invierno muchos jubilados Ingleses tienen que elegir entre la comida o calefaccion. Cualquiera de los dos lleva dolor. En el norte de Espana hay mucho frio en el invierno y por eso debe de estar una problema por los jubilados espanoles tambien.

Perdone por mi espanol, lo estoy aprendiendo, pero se tiene que intentar!

Old Age Pensioners have it really good in Ireland- €225 per week for a single person plus free electricity, free phone, free medical treatment, free travel on buses and trains, a double payment at Christmas, free TV licence, free driving licence. As an Irish person, I just cannot wait to grow old!

Just a bit concerned as we are selling up and coming out to spain to rent whilst looking to buy, don't want to go to a tourist area but given our ages 68 and 62 respectively, we need to be near civilization but also feel that our money will go further in spain than here in england.
Any information would be good. thanks..

I understand your concerns regarding buying in Spain. My wife and I have found what we feel is the ideal spot. In Costa Blanca, Monte Pego view it on www.Monte Pego Uk. It`s absolutley beautiful mostly individual villas. It`s close to the port town of Denia plus many smaller villages...stunning! You can buy off plan or re-sale without any hassle. The builders are reliable, our house was late, but only by 8 weeks!

In English, for those that are coming to Spain. Costa Blanca is the place to be. So, Carole you are doing the same as my husband and myself ages 63 & 68. We came and rented, then drove around looking for private sales, much cheaper, just go into a bar and ask other people. We have been here since December 2005 and still loving it.

Hi Carole. My mother-in-law and father-in-law emigrated to Spain in 2005 (they are now 67 and 70 respectively) and have never been happier or looked healthier - the wonderful weather certainly agrees with them (they are based in Mar Menor near Murcia). They sold their house in London and with the money they made managed to purchase a villa and a flat off plan. They live in one and rent the other - often swapping depending on what people want for their holiday let. They absolutely love it and say they wish they had done it sooner. Good luck in your hunt for a property.

Might be worth a quote from HiFX on 902879135 regarding pensions and regular payments. They could lock you into a rate of exchange for 6 months - 2 years. At least you would know what you were getting each month and with the rates the way they are it is possible they will drop even further. Once you have locked a rate you can watch the rates and lock again once they imrpove for the next 6 months. No transfer fees, no commissions and no bank receiving charges in Spain!! Worth a look at the web site.
