Cheap, cheerful and odd-side to Barcelona

Once you have been in a city for so long you get to know where and how to get places easily and cheaply.. I hate seeing new people to city paying over the odds and getting ripped off. There are so many cool places to visit, eat, hangout, drink, party, chill. whatever.. for free or for very little cost. My goal is to illuminate all tourists from the tourists traps ;)

A cheap Barcelona

After being in Barcelona for a number of years, and for a lot of time not having much money, it is really hard for me to see people (usually new visitors to the city) being ripped off when i know there is so much to do here for free or at a very small cost.

Barcelona has somehow been given a reputation for being quite an expensive city compared to the rest of the Spain but this is through the eyes of the untrained and unfamiliar people of the city and is not true. There are lots of places to eat in which, you will not only come away full and satisfied but you would also include a drink and be paying less than 5 euros.

Accomodation prices have come down so much in the last three years aswell. Now it is very easy to get a room in the city for around 250-350euros and your own flat for 600-800euros. i want to write so much here but unfortunately i have to leave my first post at this. i will be posting up a lot of tips and things to avoid in the city to make your visit, as long or short, as enjoyable and unexpensive as possible..

PS There is a list of a few of the places to eat for 4euros each at http://barcelona-underground.com/5-amazing-places-eat-barcelona-4euros/

I was in barca last week and love the city. The national art gallery leaflet said it is free on the first Sunday of the month. I wonder how busy it gets but thought that it was a good bargain especially if you were not really sure about galleries. I am thinking of trying it as a taster.

Hi Caz,

Yeh a lot of the galleries and a few other things such as going inside the Sagrada Familia, Picasso museum and Macba are also free on the first Sunday of each month. You're correct in thinking that its gets busy though unfortunately. If you go as soon as you wake up though it shouldnt be too bad. After midday then you are looking at queuing for quite some time, I often walk past a queue of 70+ people outside the Picasso museum on the odd Sunday.
