24 hour Spanish railway strike called for 3rd August
17 July 2012 @ 23:20
In response to the plans to liberalize the railway sector plans announced by the Government as part of its reform program, the unions representing the railway sector have called for a 24-hour strike at Renfe, Feve and ADIF on 3rd August 2012. The date chosen for the strike is the date when millions of Spaniards will be leaving for their summer holidays.
With the strike, the railway workers want to show their opposition to the plans announced last Friday by the Ministry of Public Works to ensure competition in the rail sector by dividing the current public operator Renfe into four companies, one for each of the following segments: goods, passengers, maintenance and rolling stock.
