Sales of safes in Spain up by 20%
17 June 2012 @ 20:05

I've just been reading an article in the Spanish press that says that sales of safes in Spain are up by 20% in the first quarter of 2012 compared to the same period last year.  The reasosn for this are apparently due to people being worried about the state of the Spanish banks and also because of the increase in robberies and burlaries due to the crisis.

Safes have always been very popular in Spain due to the amount of black money needing to be safely stored.  You can't put black money in to the bank so a safe is an obvious solution.

Could it be due to the nasty practice of putting embargos on bank accounts? I had six years lBI removed from my account from a house I sold in 2003.....The "nice" lady who bought it, did not feel the need to register for IBI, pay her basura, electricity bills or water bills....So, when I went to register for IBI in a different area, they just took the whole lot from my account.....and it was up to me to try and get it back!!! I will never put a penny more than necessary to pay my direct debits in my Spanish account!!! And, yes, I do have a safe!!!

I guess people don't trust Banks, who can blame them. People will be hoarding cash and valuables as they have done throughout history, remember the old phrase mattress money, that was before we had safes.
If you have money in the Bank, they have possesion of it. The banks have shown they are unable to act responsibly, I forsee this happening alot.

The only problem with having a Safe, is the burglars know exactly where to look. People on our Urb. have actually had the Safe stolen. If you do have one make sure you you stick it in with that Expandable foam. Apparently they can't get it out when you do that. They can if it's bolted in, and they have....so maybe a Safe isn't so SAFE after all.
