Public sector salaries to be cut again in Spain?
16 June 2012 @ 18:31
One of the IMFs suggestions last week to help Spain cut it massive budget deficit was to cut public sector salaries. Government workers in Spain have already had their salaries reduced by 5% under the previous government back in 2010. So further pay cuts are not likely to go down with public sector workers and their unions.
I'm sure it is a matter of time before the paga extra is abolished, particularly for public sector workers, Basically in Spain, you get an extra month's pay in the summer and at Christmas, so you effectively get 14 pays each year. Its kind of like a bonus. If the IMF/EU do a full bailout of Spain, which is looking increasingly likely, this has to be one of the first things to go. Spanish functionarios generally only work until 3pm and they also disappear to a bar for half an hour mid morning for their breakfast, so it's a nonsense that these people get paid this bonus. They don't deserve it.
